Detroit Film Theatre 9/24/2006

I would recommend if you've already been to the museum to go down there on Thursday evenings in the fall and check out the Detroit Film Theatre. They usually have an eclectic collection of excellent foreign films at $7.50. The place is mostly empty sans a few stragglers, CCS students, and film geeks. The theatre itself is 1920s era gorgeous. more

Went for a college field trip and surprized myself by enjoying it! 3/22/2006

I had to go for a project for a college course and I really was not prepared to enjoy the experience. I really got into all the paintings and the history behind the artist's/ So also have the cutest indoor cafe where you can get a decent meal. Yes, I definitely would go again. I would like to go for the day sometime. more

Great place 11/18/2005

If you like art this is the place to go. We took our grandkids and family here for the first time. I thought the price was high per person but what isnt high anymore. The place was just great, it was clean and the workers are super nice and will help you out or explain anything to you that you might have questions about. They kids loved this place and I would go back for sure. Never been you must go and see it. more

Great Art Museum in Downtown Detroit 10/24/2005

The Detroit Institute of Arts, located in downtown Detroit, is a really nice art museum. I remember many field trips to the DIA while in elementary school and it was always a magical place for me. They have an extensive collection of art the spans a large period of time form modern art back to Egyptian art. The galleries are good sized and have places where you can sit and take a break. The Diego Riviera mural is amazing and really a neat thing to experience. If you haven't been to the DIA in a while, it's probably time to pay it another visit. more

Cheap day with the Kids 9/28/2005

My kids love going to the Art Museum to see all the different colors, shapes, and depictions. I love going to the museum because we wander aorund in relative safety and it costs a fraction of other activities we could be doing... The institute is a wonderful place to take the kids! more

The Masters here in Detroit! 8/19/2005

The DIA has a very impressive collection. I could spend days looking at everything. I don't think I've ever managed to see the whole place in a day. There is always something new and they usually have some high-end traveling exhibits. They have a couple of restaurants but I've never tried them. I'm not sure kids would be able to take this for very long but they do have something for everyone. Take the time to go here, you'll be surprised at what famous works of art are right here in our own backyard. more

Fine Art Museum in Detroit 8/19/2005

I recommend the Detroit Institute of Art Museum. It is a great place to expose children to art or a great place to bring a date. You can walk around and talk about what you see- it instantly adds interesting conversation to your date. They offer paintings, graphic art, antiques, furniture, sculpture, you name it. Everyone will find something they are interested in. This is a great place for a field trip or outing for scouts or clubs. Also they offer a nice gift shop. Remodeling is going on right now so it should look really nice when they're done. Friday evenings they offer free programs with music, etc. A great trip for a rainy or hot day! Convenient parking and restaurants are nearby too! more

Art 8/17/2005

I've found that the DIA offers an insight to all types of art. The shows they put on are the excellent and the pieces on display are done in great taste. Some may not be apprioate with smaller children because of some graphic paintings but other than that this is a good place to go to and see how the painters painted. more

This is a great museum for reviewing art and artifacts. Also makes a great class trip for students. Always lots to do, including special exhibits. Parking structure nearby makes for easy parking, very close to many restaurants to make an entire evening of activities. Last time I went there was no fee to get in, as they were doing remodellling...can't wait to see the finished product! more

OK...so it is like a museam, but don't worry...IT IS FUN! Anyone can walk in and find something they are interested in...I promise! They have ALL kinds of art, paintings, sculptures, you name it they have it on display. They have "antique" things, modern things, and everything in between. So grab your friends (I would not bring too young children), and head out there for a fun, interesting, educational day! more

Fabulous art musuem 8/11/2005

The Detroit Institute of Art boasts a nice display of several different types of art and also brings in several popular displays. The building itself is one of a kind and is a true asset to the Detroit community. The gallery also features several discounts for groups including school as well as after-school groups. Admission can be pricey for certain events, but it is often well worth the premium price to see the fabulous art. more
