Denham & Co Salon

After moving back to Pittsbugh, I'd searched for a new Salon for quite sometime. I finally stumbled upon Denham & Co. last year and my search was over!\r \r I've seen both John and Tim and have had nothing but great experiences. They both listen and make suggestions based on my wants and needs, and the results are always great! I get both a cut and color on every visit, and love the way it comes out (I'm a fabulously unnatural redhead). \r \r One other aspect that I love about the salon is the great staff - everyone from the stylists, to the receptionist, to the assistants are friendly and open, and it makes for a great atmosphere - they really do make their clients feel important. \r \r Love these guys! more

This was my first experience with Denham & Co Salon. I was really quite pleased with the outcome of my hair cut. John Jakubik was my stylist and he was personable and took my garbled explanation of what I wanted and made it infinitely better and bolder than I could have imagined. He gave me the cut that was right for my face and personality. FINALLY!!! I am EXTREMELY pleased with my hair. I cannot wait to go back and purchase product as well as recommend John to my friends. P.S. This salon appears to be quite good at alternative hair colors as well as hair styles. more

I've been a client of Dan's for close to 10 years and I always look forward to my visit. The entire staff is warm and respectful; always looking for ways to accommodate. My hair is super fine but Dan has found a style and cut that is flattering and easy for me to maintain. I've recommended Denham & Co. to friends and to my BOSS so that should tell you something (!).\r I also like the fact that the salon is in the city, close to where I work and I like its ""hip"" atmosphere. I was basically fired as a client on my first visit. I was very late and the stylist and salon refused to reschedule my appointment. I've been in Pittsburgh 2 weeks. I live in Point Breeze and have been in Downtown twice, once for my consultation with Dan and once for my appointment. They'd been recommended to me. The area is full of construction and can be confusing. I thought I'd be on-time. Unfortunately there was no street parking and the garages were full. In the end I had to valet my car in a specialty garage. By then I was 20min late. I called the salon as soon as I left the garage, and they told me not to bother coming and hung up on me. I called them back to apologize profusely for my mistake because being that late for an appointment really is inexcusable. This is the response I received: Well, maybe Dan will reschedule you if I ask, the guy grudgingly told me. I turned down the incredibly reluctant offer. This is the Monique, the hair stylist from Denham & Co Salon. I am writing in response to the review that was recently posted from a client who was extremely disappointed with the service I provided. Let me start off by saying that I have been doing hair for about 12 years now & have never received such negative feed back about my talent or professionalism! EVER! If anyone has ever been unhappy with what I've done I only wish that they would be courteous enough to let me know instead of bashing me on the Internet & tarnishing my name & creditability as a hairstylist. It is extremely unfortunate that FG1945 was so disappointed with her experience & I apologize for that. However, I suggest that next time if it's that bad either approach the stylist or maybe speak with the manager so that the situation may be handle appropriately. P.S. I don't smoke!!!!!!! more

I have had the exact opposite experience with Monique @ Denham & Co then the review posted by FG1945 on 5/1/2010. At this point I have been using Monique as my stylist for 12 years and I have followed her wherever she has gone. Not only is she a fantastic stylist she is also extremely well rounded... in addition to my hair I use her for waxing as well as coloring. I took a chance and walked in and they gave me to a stylist named Monique. I knew I was in trouble because she acted hung over and didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I told her what I wanted, just a trim. I got butchered. I told her I don't like texture in my hair, and she chopped the hell out of it. I don't know who ever told her she can cut hair. Monique needs to go back to beauty school. I'll never go back to that salon again. I wonder if they check to see if people have talent before they hire them? Tim has been doing my hair since August, '09, and it has never looked better, nor have I ever gotten more compliments. At my age, I've seen my share of hairdressers. In Tim, I found a bonafide ""stylist""! If you allow him to do what he does best -- which is choosing the color & style most appropriate for YOU -- you'll have no remorse; yet he will always ask (first) how you would like to see yourself & abides by your wishes. My daughter has been a client of Dan's for several years, so I did not hesitate to give Denham & Co. a try. Tim and his entire staff are knowledgeable, professional, courteous & friendly. I had no idea what I wanted when I walked in, and I left with the best hair I've ever had. The color is great and the cut hides the fact that I'm loosing my hair! I would have even my pickest freinds come to this salon! more

The first time I went to Dehams, my experience was ok. I went for a brow and lip wax. My brows weren't shaped as good as they could have been and I still had some hairs on my upper lip, but for the price and convenience of being able to run over at lunch time for a service, it was fine. The next time I went, I noticed a dog running around the salon. Although I thought this a little strange (and somewhat unsanitary), I ignored it, again for the convenience of the salon. The next time I went, I didn't see the dog so I was relieved until we walked back to the waxing room only to find the dog laying on the waxing bed...the same spot where I was supposed to lay. Now that's just gross...she simply shooed the dog away and I had to lay right where the dog was. I'm not a clean-freak by any means...but I also don't want to lay in a dog bed in good work clothes. The LAST time I went, I walked in and the dog jumped right up on me. Then as I'm laying in the waxing bed, the dog again jumped up on me. The person doing my brows just giggled, pick the dog up off of of me, petted it and then went right back to TOUCHING MY FACE. I'm sorry...dog lover or not...that's just unsanitary! She's touching this dog - that has been who-knows-where, then without washing her hands or anything, she goes right back to touching my face. No convenience is worth that! I'm sure Aveda would not approve! I am back to my original salon for my waxes - it's a little out of the way for me, but my brows have never looked better. And guess what...my lip is actually hair-free after a lip wax. The BEST salon is Maxmanii in Robinson - ask for Anita! Not dogs and hair-free!!! I have gone to Tim at the Salon for 13 years! I can't imagine going any other place. Tim is a great artist, and his associates all do such GREAT work. I am new to the area and have found this salon to be a great fit for my needs. I work downtown and live in Point Breeze. Regarding scheduling - they have been very accommodating of my schedule. In the event of a miscommunication they call to confirm and move appointments. If there is an overlap - they are gracious and have always found a way to work me in. Facials are relaxing and renewing experiences. The Wax specialist takes pride in her work - SHE was amazing. Without these people I'd be a hot mess. I first went to Cara at Denham and Co. to chop off my long hair for Locks of Love. I was very nervous about it and she made me feel wonderful. She spent a lot of time discussing with me what I wanted my new short cut to look like and what would work with my hair. At the end of the cut she had me check out the cut from every angle and made any changes I wanted...she also showed me how to style it. Losing all my hair was an enjoyable experience. I have gona back to Cara numerous times and each time she has been equally attentive. As the whole I have found the salon employees to be friendly and helpful, salon prices are reasonable and the place is clean (unlike many salons I have been to). On my first visit at Denham I was impressed with my hair cut, color and wax. The total cost was reasonable for the services. On my second visit, I was satisfied with my color BUT deeply saddened by my hair cut. The stylist attempted to put layers in my long hair, but LACKED the skill to do so. My hair did not appear to have layers at all, but choppy sections of hair that DID NOT flow smoothly together. Sections of my hair flipped out in various locations in blunt shapes. At the end of the visit I was charged the same as I was on my first visit, but I had fewer services. This made no sense to me and I was not bale to get a clear answer as to why.
