Best

I love DCI. The new owners are super nice and the cafe is a great addition to an already stunning selection of wonderful items and gifts. Whenever I have a person on my gift list ...

Worst

I brought a friend from out of town to Dancing Cranes Imports recently and was shocked and embarrassed at how little and picked over the selection was. I had raved to this friend...

one of best shops I've been in 9/21/2012

I've had the pleasure of shopping there whenever I'm in Salt Lake City: 2-3 times a year. There are many temptations, great gifts and I love to go there. Both of my daughters live in SLC and also love to shop there. I do have a suggestion. What about a Facebook page. I just saw one for the Blue Rain Gallery - you might check it out. more

Best place to find gifts EVER! 8/6/2011

I love DCI. The new owners are super nice and the cafe is a great addition to an already stunning selection of wonderful items and gifts. Whenever I have a person on my gift list that is always a fickle giftee I come here and am never disappointed. 5 stars! more

I love this store. I am visiting my daughter and she brought me here one of her favorite places. We had lots of fun checking everything out. i bought a couple of great celtic designed bed covers that i plan to quilt. i found the india bells i have been looking for all over houston. so many other things, i bought a blouse and a scarf. I wish we had a ""Dancing Crane"" in houston! more

Loved for years by many! 4/15/2010

Love this store. Have been a faithful customer for 5 years, since moving from Washington. It's so hard to find stores like this. I mean, things like candles, incense, etc are not that difficult to find but the clothing selection is like no other I've seen before. I've been around and it seems like their prices are very fair. The new owners are great by the way. I've heard people complaining about the amount of inventory but I've visited recently and it's all brand new (clothing, jewelry, etc) and I love that. I'm used to going and seeing a lot of items sticking around so this is great to see all new things. I'm sure their inventory will build up too. Also, in response to ""jessgreen420"" review which seems much like a ranting session, Uhh.. Hmm.. can anyone say fishy? I find this review strange as it seems like the reviewer hadn't even talked to the new owner about it's renovation. I'm also a long time fan and spoke with the new owner. Found out she has worked there for 10 years or something like that and all the inventory currently in the store is brand new aside from very few and discounted items left over from the past. The owners before had been running the store for 15+ years and it took them a long time to build up the large selection they had. I'd say, don't doom a local business and give them a chance to build up their inventory. Jeez, they just started this month in April. P.S. Pros and Cons on this review are very contradictory!! Love this store and am confident that my favorite store in the West will stick around for many years to come. Pros: Good service and people, beautiful merchandise! Cons: Um.... Not open 24/7? more

Dancing Cranes Imports 4/12/2010

I brought a friend from out of town to Dancing Cranes Imports recently and was shocked and embarrassed at how little and picked over the selection was. I had raved to this friend about how incredible the variety and quality was, as I knew it for the last 5 years. The entire store seemed so much larger since many areas and shelves were empty and covered by sheets. It looked as though they were clearing the place out to close down. It also seemed as though the junk that was left was higher priced than I remembered. The pond was in a sad state, even my friend said ""eww they need to clean the pond, poor fish"". I found that even the drinking fountain water was turned off! I have read that Dancing Cranes was under new ownership and I was hoping that meant making the place even better, but it was terrible! We ended up buying a couple cheap rings and left disappointed. I am going to miss the Dancing Cranes that I knew and loved for so many years, as it was truely a unique and special store that I delighted in introducing many friends to. I am left wondering what the plans are for the store. Maybe they will turn it into some condos like what I have seen happen to some of the best historic buildings in SLC. Too bad the good things never last. Pros: Lots of tie dye clothing items Cons: What happened to all the inventory??? more

Another response to ""CRAPPY NOVELTY STORE"" 4/1/2010

I frequent this store often and have frequented it for YEARS. The said reviewer has their information totally flipped. For one, they weren't doing ""returns/exchanges"" during the sale as the past owners were trying to sell all of their old merchandise before the NEW OWNERSHIP took place. This is my favorite place to go in SLC and I really dislike seeing ignorant reviews like the one mentioned. By ignorant I mean, this person obviously paid no attention to the reasons why they weren't accepting ""returns/exchanges"" and the fact that they are NOT closing, simply changing ownership. They DO have an exchange policy. The new owners seem very friendly and just took ownership today, April 1st. I stopped by because I heard they would finally have new stones, jewelry, clothing, etc. and the new stuff is BEAUTIFUL! Rumors of a cafe in the store too!! Yipee! more

CRAPPY NOVELTY STORE WITH WORSE SERVICE 3/4/2010

Do not go here if you ever change your mind about purchases!!! THEY SUCK AT RETURNS/EXCHANGES... and by that I mean they don't. Pros: Closing soon Cons: Prices more

Dancing Crane--Good For Salt Lake City 2/6/2010

RESPONSE TO ""CRAPPY NOVELTY STORE""\r Having seen crappy novelty stores here & in other cities--this store is far from this reviewer's description. The quality of the goods is high, the sales reps are fine--& more than one or two-- a good sign in this economy. The misogynistic comments made by this person are not necessary to describe what seems to be a case of less than perfect customer service. Folks, if you want great, unusual items for your home or tasteful, quality jewelry & clothes w/ some cute tzchotckes for your friends--everything in the store is 40% off now (February 2010).\r Pros: The merchandise Cons: The strange reviewers on this site! more

Stunningly Interesting, SPECTACULAR gifts 11/9/2009

They have the best selection of candles, holders, insense, soaps, bohemian style clothing and more! Beautiful furniture, carvings, eastern-looking statues and lamps. HUGE jewelry selection, any type of natural gemstone you could ever ask for, bamboo and other plants, nice big open space in the store, plenty of room to walk around. Everything is adorable AND, double plus bonus: The people who work there aren't buggy. Pros: Glorified, Bohemia-fied Pier 1-esque Wonderland Cons: Slightly hard to find...but WORTH IT more

Dancing cranes 9/9/2009

I love what the store sells. But their hours are insane. I can hardly ever shop there due to their unavailability. Their customer service is also crappy like one other reviewer said they CHECK on you that you aren't stealing and FREQUENTLY follow you around the store and if you look at the jewelry they eye you like crazy. Im not a thief...but def. am treated as one when I go there. I like to go in for some unique times and there jewelry is amazing. There hours MUST change!!!! Pros: unique stuff, many items Cons: costly furniture items, HOURS more

Is this joint ever open? 8/10/2009

Really wanting to take a look at this joint, but I suppose that the only customers they accommodate are the unemployed. Store hours not showing after they pull the iron gate at lock up time, so I don't know if they are open on Sunday. Perhaps a higher star rating if I can actually shop there.. more

Same Old New Age Crappy Novelty Store 8/8/2009

This place is yet another example of a sad Utah attempt to bring ""culture"" to the SL valley, but falls embarassingly short. Fake glam-Buddhism and crystal-worship might have a warm home in SLC, but if this store had a few bongs thrown in, it'd basically be indistinguishable from a hippie/head-shop superstore. Add the fact that they obviously sicced their butchiest female employee to sit and glare at/follow me on my visit to the store (because apparently they must get lone 27 y/o male thieves a lot) and you can can guarantee I'll never be going back. They could have at least FAKED customer service and asked if I needed help while trying to peer in my pockets, but they're a staff that doesn't seem the type to take kindly to phallus-bearing customers, and assumed that I was a shop-lifter with no basis at all. Normally the existence of these crappy little shops wouldn't bother me too much, but given the hostility I was shown in this store, I will actively advocate against shopping at this establishment to anyone who'll listen. more

Enlightened Retail 4/7/2008

Dancing Cranes Imports is THE place to go for all your imports needs. They have AMAZING prices, and sell unique and fabulous items. They have wood-carved furniture, tapestries, jewelry, journals, cards, fountains, and other exquisite things. The atmosphere is equally fantastic. There is a pond in the middle, complete with koi. I highly recommend going there. You will NOT be disappointed. Pros: Ambience, Unique Items, Great Prices Cons: Not close enough for me to walk to. more
