Carriage Hill Kennels

I will never let my dogs be hurt by Carriage Hills again. I brought 2 of my dogs here about twice before and had no problem. It was the last time I came, that I've vowed never to bring them back here again. My dogs are terrified of getting groomed (which I assume is how most pets are), but they weren't always like that, at least not until I started bringing them to Carriage Hill. I brought them in to get the full treatment and was told to pick them up before closing time. When I came to get them, they looked cute with the bows in their hair, but their hair was not cut short as I had instructed the staff previously. No biggie, I took them home and they were just so excited to be out of there that I was happy.\r \r Once they got into the house, my mom went to go pet one of them on the back and my dog completely freaked out, she barked defensively and ran away. When my mom informed me of what happened, I went over to my dog to try and pet her and she flinched as she saw me putting my hand to her back. I could tell she was in serious pain and she looked so scared. She was completely fine that morning when I was playing with her before the appointment. When I examined her back there was no visible wounds. I'm not sure exactly what they did to her when she was there, but she came back with an injury (whether they hit her, mistreated her, maybe they grabbed her by the hair) . Every time I saw her wince in pain, it broke my heart. A day later I realized why she was in so much pain, I noticed that the back of my dog's neck was very swollen. The size of the welt on her neck/back was probably a little bit smaller than my fist, and my dog is only 12 lbs! I waited a couple days and noticed that the swelling seemed to go down, but I have never seen anything like that. I can't imagine what type of torture they put those poor dogs through. I will never bring either of my dogs there again. FYI - I posted this review on Yelp, and they filtered my review along with 12 others. We have used C.Hill for our dogs' grooming for over a decade. Our beloved Dobbin was a Lhasa mix rescue who had very quiet but firm opinions, rejected 2 other facilities in Glenview after 1 visit each. When he developed diabetes, special allowance was made & he was ready for pickup in 2 hours, looking as beautiful as ever.\r We now have another rescue, Fritz, who is as feisty as Dobbin was laid back. I held my breath because he's not easily directed, but after picking him up, I found him tail wagging & happy. And, again groomed beautifully. The owner gave me two suggestions to help our boy ajust.\r Carriage Hill is clean, well run and professional, in my opinion. more

I will never send my dog back to this kennel. After his five night stay, he had sores all over his nose and what appears to be kennel cough. Stay away from this place! more

After seeing this article at http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/iteam&id=5805296, I don't think I could trust my pet with them. They also leave the dogs out for hours on end barking which stresses the animals out and annoys the entire neighborhood. more

The only upside to this place is they did a **decent** job with my dog's haircut. Their facility is dirty and their staff is rude. They held my dog there for over 9 hours and when I went to pick him up he was crying and terrified. It was all I could do to keep him from running out the front door. I had to pick him up he was so terrified. I have no idea what went on at this groomers, but I have NEVER experienced anything like that when picking my dog up from ANY other groomers. NEVER visit this facility for grooming, a kennel stay, or anything else they do -- you have been warned. more
