Editorial review from Citysearch 1/27/2013

I am so very disappointed. A group of friends and I stopped in yesterday, for lunch. What a horrible experience. We all left frustrated. I had the Angus Burger. I ordered it medium, it came rare. My friend ordered the same except she ordered hers well done, it was served rare. We waited ten minutes for the waitress, she never returned with other requests. Finally, my friend had to walk her meal back to the kitchen in order to get service. After 25 minutes, her second burger was served, this time the burger was burnt. When we asked for the manager, the manager seem uncaring and unwilling to rectify the situation. Further, the rest of us made requests for other items, like refills, utensils and extra condiments, which we never received. The kicker to this is that two of us paid with a credit card each and we were both over charged. My other friend's meal was $11+. She left a cash tip. She checked her statement last night and was charged an additional 2.50 on her credit card. My bill was $12.41. I did not leave a tip because of the poor service. I just checked my credit card statement, I too was overcharged by 2.50. What kind of establishment is this? Not only bad service, but unauthorized charges, too!?! Unbelievable! If you choose to go to Cafe Brio after this and other reviews, PAY CASH and expect poor service and poorly prepared meals. more

Best food I have ever had 2/10/2011

What a gem! 7/3/2010

I only had a few minutes before my next meeting, but this was the perfect place to grab a quick lunch. The food was fantastic, the wait staff was friendly, although there could have been more of them... they were so busy, and the atmosphere was very fun. The decor is very rustic and slightly South American. I really enjoyed the homemade fries. I definitely plan on returning. Pros: Great Food, Fun Atmosphere, Good Location Cons: Slow Service more

If you like being robbed, then go here! 7/25/2009

We were tourists in Springfield, and clearly it showed. After having a mediocre lunch here, we returned home several days later and found they had changed a 4 dollar tip to a 40 dollar one. This also resulted in 2 overdraft fees, which they refuse to pay! Basically, we spent 130 dollars for 2 forgettable sandwiches and a glass of iced tea. Cons: fraudulent practices more

might have been 2/14/2009

Well, it might have been OK, but we didn't get a chance to eat. We got there at 10 minutes to 3:00PM today. A lunch was being served until 3, then they were to close and open back up for dinner at 5. Even though we got there before 3, the hostess/waitress said they stopped serving, ""since it was 3."" Guess they didn't need our business (or maybe she was off at 3), either way, we were turned away. The very next restaurant that we then went to, Galina's, we were welcomed, with a smile. Galina's has an excellent antipasta, fresh baked breads for sandwiches (meat ball is best), and great, great pizza. So thanks for nothing, Cafe Brio. Pros: ethnic food Cons: service more

The worst place ever! 6/5/2008

The worst experience ever in my life. I ordered a Chicken Cesar salad and they brought me a flat desert plate size with lettuce and tomatoes left over and I had to pay $9 for that.\r I would close down this place and open a thrift store 'cause that's Springfield all about, lazy, ugly, weird peasants.\r Don?t even think about going to that place! It?s very bad!\r more

Unexpected gem in Springfield 11/17/2006

I liked Brio better when they didn't charge for the chips and salsa, but I still fork over the cash for the best homemade chips and salsa I've ever had. The eclectic Mexican-ish menu is full of fantastic items, such as their chimichangas and their blackened chicken salad. Yes, that sounds chain restaurant boring, but they do those dishes up great, and I'm just forgetting the more interesting ones. I moved to Chicago long ago and still call Brio my favorite restaurant. Pros: Great food, great ambience Cons: Charging for chips and salsa now more

Unique Cuisine 9/12/2004

Cafe Brio is a good place to go for lunch. The food is different and not for all - recipes border on the adventurous. (I recommend the black bean quesadilla.) However, expect to pay a bit more; it can be a little pricey, especially if you order a drink. Lunch service is par. Carry out is better. Still, the food is good and you get free chips and salsa when dining in. Pros: unique foods more
