A Double-Edged Sword 8/19/2010

This place suffers from the same problem as the bookstore that it is located at: horrible service. While the food is really, really well-done ""Floribbean""-style cuisine, the attitude and lack of attentiveness make the place just not worth the effort. The cafe manager, in particular (some weird chick with hideous, dyed-pink hair) has a horrendous attitude. I went with some friends, and as she was seating us, she asked if we were eating. I told her that I was only having a coffee, but- and then she interrupted me and began almost shouting that she couldn't seat us if we weren't there to eat. I told her- if you'd let me finish what I was saying, I'M not eating, but my friends ARE. She said something to the effect of, Well, they better! I could not believe what I was hearing, and I turned to my friends and said, Let's just go somewhere else, this is unbelievable. They completely agreed, and we left. A MUCH better place to go is L.A. Cafe, located at 1570 Alton Road. It has the same executive chef as The Cafe at B&B, so you get all the delicious food without the nasty-bitch attitude. more

A Diamond With A Flaw 8/19/2010

I've been coming to this bookstore since I first moved to Miami Beach, in 1997. Since that time, the shop has moved from its former location to another space literally next door, and the new shop is sleeker and more upscale in appearance. I love Books&Books, in fact it is one of my favorite shops on the Beach. However, I do have one problem with B&B, and it's a big one: the staff. Although there ARE several staff members who are knowledgeable and helpful, there do seem to be an equal number of extremely rude and unfriendly people working there; one, in particular, is so rude and nasty that I almost wonder if she needs to be on some kind of anti-psychotic medication. It's terrible that a couple of (obviously) unhappy people can mar what is such a lovely and well-stocked shop. more

Best Breakfast! 9/2/2008

We had the best breakfast at this place after walking past it on a Tuesday morning. There wasn't much open and serving breakfast on a Tuesday, and this place looked decent. The cappuccino was passable, but we wouldn't recommend it. Too much foam and not great for the $3.75 pricetag. But the breakfast was fantastic. My sister had the grilled ham and eggs benedict, which was multigrain toast, with ham and a poached egg and an avocado hollandaise sauce on top. It was to die for. The avocado hollandaise was so unique and delicious. I had the Miami stuffed toast which was the multigrain french toast stuffed with cream cheese and bananas and then grilled. It was phenomenal. And very reasonably priced. Our entrees were between $8-$9. We highly recommend! Pros: Breakfast! People-watching Cons: Slow service... more
