I developed gynecomastia at age 12. As a tall, lean kid actively involved in athletics my whole life, living with “puffy nipples” was a horrible experience. I am a current medical student at the University of Pittsburgh. 4 months ago I underwent gynecomastia surgery with Dr. Blau to deal with puffy nipples. I couldn't be more pleasantly surprised with the results. I knew in looking at the over 2000 before and after pictures on his website that there was high likelihood of success, but I'm even happier than I expected. Both nipples are perfectly flush with my chest, and there's almost no sign of any surgery at all. I just got back from a week beach vacation with my family, and they all commented on how in-shape I looked, and of course, didn't notice or mention any signs of surgery.\r \r Most here have mentioned Dr. Blau's willingness to take time and answer questions. I just want to underscore this point. I currently underwent gynecomastia surgery which I had to have after a well-known doctor botched the entire session not only costing me pain, suffering and ultimately money! Dr.Blau - Great gynecomastia surgeon and great guy! I developed gynecomastia during puberty and it effected my confidence and self-esteem greatly. I am a fitness enthusiastic and work extremely hard to stay in shape. However, no matter what I did, or how low my bodyfat level got, I always had ""puffy nipples."" After doing little research and locating a plastic surgeon in my area (MA), I had surgery performed in 2008 under general anesthesia in which the surgeon used a liposection technique an attempt to reduce the puffyness. Needless to say, the results were less than stellar. I was left with a large hole my wallet, weeks of lost time in gym, and no increase in self esteem. If anything, I felt more depressed because I was unable to workout and still had a case of gynecomastia that was not corrected. A few years went by, and I contemplated having the surgery done again. I did more extensive research and had a friend that had gone to Dr.Blau and he stated he was extremely pleased with the results. Being a male in my mid-Forties, I developed Gyno back in my late teens which affected my self esteem for many years. Having weight trained for most of my adult life, I was always proud of my physique except for the Gyno present in my chest.\r \r After conducting a thorough internet search on the subject, I chose Dr. Blau because of his vast experience and the many positive reviews given by his patients. \r \r Upon meeting Dr. Blau, all of my questions & concerns were put at ease. I visited Dr. Blau for gynecomastia surgery. Developing gynecomastia can be an emotional experience; especially for someone like myself who eats extremely healthy and frequents the gym 5 times a week. However, Dr. Blau does hundreds of these surgeries a year and has done thousands of these surgeries throughout his career, so he is definitely the best choice when choosing to have this type of surgery. For me, he recommended doing the surgery with only a local anesthetic instead of being sedated as other surgeons I had consultations with suggested. Surgery was relatively quick without sedation; It took longer to wait for the local to fully kick in than it did to make the incision and remove the extra tissue. I was even allowed to wear my own clothes and simply take off my shirt for surgery. After surgery, I was then wrapped in a tight ace bandage and if you follow his instructions to take it easy then you can have this removed in as little as 5 days as i did. No garments to wear for 6 weeks as other surgeons insist. However, you can not do any heavy lifting or exercise as you don't to want to do any activity that could cause swelling. It is very nice to be able to not have to wear anything but band-aids covering the incisions (with me they oozed for about two weeks which Dr. Blau said was normal). I was a little sore for about a week following surgery and my chest started to feel normal again after about one month. I think it is very important to keep in mind that even though you may think you are healed enough to do some type of exercise, there is a lot of healing going on under the skin and if you wait at least 4 weeks you will have the best final results. For me I went back to the gym after 3 weeks and did only very light exercise at first then progressed as I felt no pressure anymore in my chest. I didn't do any chest exercises for 6 weeks and am happy now that I waited. Everyone heals at different rates, but go with your instinct. Six months after the first surgery (I had one side done 3 months after the first) and I am 100% healed. The scar is small and seems to have gotten lighter each month. It is not very noticeable unless looking at it in certain bright lighting. If you are someone like myself that takes good care of your body and suddenly develops gynecomastia then I would definitely recommend Dr. Blau. He will help you to look back to normal again and feel good about your body again. He does so many of these surgeries that it is extremely routine for him. My son had male breast reduction surgery for gynecomastia. I wanted to share my experience with my plastic surgery with Dr. Blau. In 2006, I had liposuction of the chin (submental lipectomy) to remove the ""double chin"" that bothered me immensely for years. I first came to Dr. Blau after reviewing the patient photos on his website. I found that his before and after photos were very impressive and I traveled from Boston to New York for the consultation. After meeting Dr. Blau and his staff, I was comfortable with my decision to have the surgery and scheduled it for 2 weeks later. The day of the surgery, I was nervous, but everyone in his office made me feel at ease. I had my chin liposuction under local anesthetic, which cost a little less. While I can't say the actual surgery was ""fun"", Dr. Blau and his nurses made sure that I was comfortable and in no pain. The surgery went very quickly with only a small incision under my chin that required only one stitch. I felt fine immediately afterwards and really didn't have any recovery time, although I took it easy for a couple weeks and avoided exercise and lifting. The stitch came out a couple of days later, and the swelling went down over the following weeks. It took me a while to get used to the new look, which is normal, but I was very pleased with the results.
