A Stitch Witch

I bought my wedding dress from Bridals by Jodi, and A Stitch Witch was their recommended seamstress. My family lives in Charleston, however, I live in Columbia. It wasn't a huge inconvenience to drive down on the weekends for fittings, so I decided to go with A Stitch Witch. From the first fitting, they were unorganized and rude. My dress was all lace and had a deep V. This worked because I am not busty, so the V in the front did not look too sexy, just pretty. I explained to the girl that I did not want cups sewn into my dress, and just wanted the top to lie flat on my chest. The next time that I went to try it on, they had sewn cups in and as a result, the boning in the bust now protruded out. The cups also pushed what small breasts I have together. I looked like a mess! So, the next weekend, I went down. When I arrived, they were not open yet, so I had to wait in the parking lot until they got there. When I tried on the dress again, the cups were out, but that was all they had done. The dress now fit those cups, and did not come close to laying flat to my body. The white haired lady, that I suppose is ?The Stitch Witch? (one part of that description seems about right) did not have any suggestions on how to make it the way that I wanted, and just said that was how the dress was made by the factory. I was beginning to get to my breaking point and just accept the fact that my dress would look wrong. My 7-month pregnant sister pulled me into the dressing room, yanked the dress all around to mold it to my body. She then demanded that the, for lack of better description, white haired lady, come into the dressing room. My sister then proceeded to do a better job than anyone at this establishment had done in the past, and show the lady where she would need to sew in order to make the dress lay flat. So we left, only to have to come back the next weekend. Now we are getting down to the wire. It was only two weeks away from the big day. We didn?t have any more time for mistakes. more

I bought my wedding dress from White and A Stitch Witch does all of their alterations. They did the most amazing time with the fitting and added a lot of beautiful beadwork on the bodice of the gown. I could not be happier with their work. I had sleeves added to my bridesmaid dresses and had the neckline brought up. Originally, I had taken the dresses to The Dressing Room on King St. She did the alterations on one dress and they were absolutely horrible. As soon as I realized how bad it was, I brought them to A Stitch Witch. They fixed the one dress and did three other dresses. They designed the sleeves to put on the dress and the dresses looked beautiful. I am very grateful I did not settle for terrible work and brought all the dresses involved in my wedding to A Stitch Witch. I highly recommend that all brides go here for any alterations. Dress was not hemmed properly so that I could not walk, I had to kick the dress so I did not fall. The buttons that ran down the back had the elastic loops put on them so the zipper would not show. Instead of doing it right over all of the bottons it was randomly done so the buttons pointed in every direction. It looked horrible in my pictures! The bustle broke not even 30 minutes into the reception so I had to carry around the dress all night. The Stitch Witch had my dress a total of 3 times and it was still not done properly. They had it still the week of my wedding! VERY STRESSFUL! Roberta was very rude (not short or blut). The first time I picked it up she would not let me try it on for them to make sure they did everything correctly because it was 4:30 and they close at 5. She also would not listen to me when I had issues after my bridal portrait session claiming that she knew more than me. She hadn't even seen me in the dress since the alterations! more

I have worked with Roberta!! for many yrs. Over 9yrs ago she altered my wedding dress and did a wonderful job! i HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE OTHERS ARE TALKING ABOUT!! Roberta is direct and straight to the point no in betweens. Until this day I can call on Roberta and she cheerfully welcomes me! All u negative folks kick rocks!!!!! I frasier more

After having a horrendous experience with the bridal boutique dress I purchased and the owner of the store, I turned to Roberta at a stitch witch to help with the severe alterations. The dress needed to be lengthened (not a problem), but the dress was too small. The ""designer"" said that it would take minimal alterations in the back, but she really had no idea what she was talking about. Roberta had to redesign the entire back of the dress in 2 weeks for my wedding. She also offered to pick up my veil, dress, steam my dress, and deliver it to my hotel room all so I wouldn't have to deal with the woman from whom I purchased the dress. As icing on the cake, Roberta and her team constructed a fabric flower to replace the tattered looking trashy item the ""designer"" had put together for me. All in all, she saved my wedding and my dress. I think the poor reviews below is because people might have a hard time assessing Roberta's personality. She's a no-nonsense kind of woman, but she knows how to make a wedding dress fit a bride. I would highly recommend a stitch witch for ANY occasion, but especially for your wedding dress. more

ROBERTA NOT ONLY RUINED MY DRESS, SHE WAS INCREDIBLY RUDE! I purchased my gown through Bridal House of Charleston. Once my dress arrived at the shop, I was referred to ""A Stitch Witch"" for my alterations. After an initial consultation with Nancy (I believe this is one of Roberta's assistants), I went in for my first fitting after the initial alterations had been made. This is where everything went so horribly wrong. When I went to put the dress on, I COULD NOT EVEN GET INTO THE DRESS. Keep in mind that this was a dress that was TOO BIG just a week ago --- Roberta had altered the dress to the point where it would not even fit over my hips --- and I could not even get into the dress from underneath. When Roberta (and Nancy) realized that some type of mistake had been made they tried to quickly change the subject and turned their attention to the shoes I had purchased. They proceeded to chastise and lecture me for my choice in shoes in order to take the attention off of the incredibly horrendous alteration job. After leaving the shop, I contacted the Bridal House of Charleston and explained my concern regarding the alteration job --- the owner of the shop sent an employee over to pick the dress up immediately from ""A Stitch Witch."" Long story short, the dress was completely destroyed and the Bridal House had to order a COMPLETELY NEW dress since mine was beyond any repair. The ""in house"" seamstress at the Bridal House, Janet, is now doing my alterations and everything has been done perfectly! When my mom tried to call ""A Stitch Witch"" and get our money back for the alterations, Roberta proceeded to get extremely aggressive and used some very colorful language. Ultimately, she said that she ""doesn't do work for free"" and that if we tried to dispute the claim with the credit card company then she would just ""dispute it right back."" I have never seen someone, especially an owner of a business, behave in such a crude way. My mom and I were absolutely astonished at her behavior. We will NOT be back!! ""Witch"" rhymes with ""b****"" for a reason and Roberta is just that. more

My daughter found a dress she absolutely loved for prom. We went to several different places and were told that the alterations she needed done could not be done on this dress. She was so upset and we were about to take the dress back and start looking for another one when a friend told me about A Stitch Witch. We decided to try before we took it back to the store and I'm so glad that we did!!! They told me that they could most definitely alter the dress and that it would not be a problem. The dress fit perfectly and she looked beautiful. Needless to say, making a teenage girl happy can be difficult but they certainly did. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of alterations as they can do things others say can't be done. And FYI....the ""mean witch"" everyone talks about is no longer there. I first went to A Stitch Witch when I had to have my wedding dress altered. The dress was covered in intricate beading and lace, and the owner did a fantastic job in a timely manner! I have since been to them three more times for bridesmaids dress alterations and all were done to perfection! I have noticed that there are a lot of reviews that say the owner can be mean, but she was really nice to me. I think as long as you are nice to her, she will be nice to you! more

I went to Stitch Witch to have my wedding dress steamed. When I went to pick it up, the lady at the counter told me the alterations person did my bustle ""ass backward"" and it was just all wrong. Then she told me my fiance shouldn't be there with me because it was just WRONG WRONG for him to see my wedding dress before the wedding! -That's none of her business! I only paid them to steam the dress, not give me personal opinions on my alterations and my choices! What a horrible place! I won't be back. more

Berta did my daughters wedding dress and I have to say she was WONDERFUL. Every negative thing said about her isn't the case. Be kind to people and they will be kind to you. We met at Jodi's Bridal for the first fitting and she and Mary were great, went to her shop for the second fitting and again they both were great. She knows what she is doing. stitch witch altered my wedding dress perfectly. I dealt with the good witch though, not the one at the door. I've heard the stories about the one at the door, you just have to keep going and know who to I had my wedding dress done at the stitch witch, and everything was perfect. I obviously dealt with the good witch. I did have a friend tell me she went to have a pair of jeans hemmed, and she dealt with the green witch from the wizard of Oz. Well, I was a bride's maid earlier this month, and I dealt with a lady named Roberta. She happened to actually remember me! I will say this, I did see the lady at the entrance, and from our short first impression I can say I noticed she was a little green. Keep it formal wear, and buy street clthes that fit. more

Whatever. Stitch Witch probably wrote that first review herself. The old bag should be euthenized. She is bitter and mean for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Hopefully this place will go out of business. Avoid at all costs. Cons: Vile, monster of a human being owns the place. Beware. more

I had an appointment with Condons Bridal to fix my wedding dress and when i got their they refused to do it and the girls at ""A Stitch Witch"" took me right in and fixed me up right then and their. They are so sweet. I recommend ""A Stitch Witch"" to anyone thats looking to be treated with pure respect. Pros: everything more
