We have heard people rave about Chipotle and from their description (and looking at their website online), it looked like the concept was similar to Cafe Rio, a place where we absolutely LOVED to eat before we moved to Texas. http://www.judysbook.com/members/11300/posts/2005/8/70054/ We have tried a lot of different restaurants since we moved, and nothing has come close to Cafe Rio. We really miss it! Chipotle's concept is very simple. There are only five items on the menu - a burrito, a "fajita burrito," a "burrito bol," tacos, or a salad. For each item, you can choose to fill it with chicken, steak, carnitas, barbacoa, or "vegeterian" (a combination of guacamole and vegeterian black beans). It also includes rice, your choice of pinto or black beans, your choice of salsa (roasted chili-corn, tomatillo green chili, tomatillo-red chili, or fresh tomato), and your choice of cream cheese or sour cream. If you get the "fajita burrito" it includes sauteed peppers and onions. If you get the "burrito bol" it is served in a bowl without a tortilla. For an additional charge, you can add chips, salsa, or guacamole to your meal. Soft drinks are self-serve or you can also have a margarita or specialty/domestic beer. The setting is "cafeteria style" and they make your food in front of you as you move through the line. The prices are very reasonable and range from $4.95 for a "vegeterian" item to $5.60 for the "carnitas." "Extras" range from $.70 for chips to $2.00 for chips and guacamole. Soft drinks are $1.35. My husband and I both ordered chicken burritos. I got mine with pinto beans, tomatillo-green chili, and cheese. He got his with black beans, tomatillo-red chili, and sour cream. We also ordered a side of guacamole. The burritos are huge, so unless you are REALLY hungry, you porbably won't be able to finish it in one setting. The flavor of the chicken was good, but we weren't overly impressed by everything else. The flavors didn't really "mesh" well together. My husband got the "hottest" salsa, but still ended up adding tabasco sauce to his. Because Chipotle's menu is so limited, they really don't have anything for children. I tried sharing my burrito with my daughter, but it was a little too hot for her. Maybe our expectations were too high, but Chipotle didn't live up to them. The next time we want inexpensive fresh "Tex Mex" we'll stick with Taco Cabana.
