About eight years ago, I bought a 5-month-old guinea pig for my 8 year old daughter. Apparently, the female pig had been kept with male guinea pigs and it turned out she was pregnant. \r

We didn't realize that she was pregnant until the first pup was born -- still-born. I took the mother guinea pig to my vet that morning, and after checking her the vet came back and told me that there were 3 more pups inside her and that she was too young/small to deliver them. She had to be put down. How do you explain that to an eight-year-old child?!?\r

I haven't been back to PetCo since.
