Review content:
My fiancee and I researched Flat Rate and found these reviews (which helped us decide on using them). Unfortunately, I couldn't disagree more. Everything that could go wrong with a move did go wrong, and Flat Rate's customer service is extremely lousy. They may be good at lifting heavy things and loading them into a truck, but that's where their expertise in service stops. They have a lot of experience with moving jobs in San Francisco, yet they brought an 18-wheeler to a 1-bedroom apartment. They double-parked in our street, which attracted the police, and when they had to move they told us that they ""had to cancel the job"" (after loading everything we owned into the truck except for a desk and bed frame). EVERY professional moving company I've ever dealt with secured the proper parking permits for me, EXCEPT Flat Rate, and in our multiple interactions with them prior to the move (including having Rick Tobin personally visit our apartment for a pre-move estimate), they never once even mentioned that we MIGHT have to secure permits. To top it off, when everything hit the fan, they told us that it was OUR problem and that we had to sort it out. After my fiancee and I called the police and straightened things out AND stood out in the cold for over an hour holding curbside parking spots, the movers returned and finished. The only follow-up after the incident from Flat Rate that we got was a phone call from Rick Tobin, not to apologize or offer compensation, but to yell at us and remind us that the parking situation was our fault. We also got an e-mail telling us that they'd be delivering our stuff a week later than they said they would. So far, nobody from the company has even apologized or offered some kind of refund or compensation for their numerous mistakes and our horrible move. The people that packed up and unloaded our stuff were extremely considerate and professional, and get five stars all the way. However the entire management team and ""customer service"" department of Flat Rate would get negative stars if it were possible. DO NOT USE FLAT RATE.
