Getting an HIV test always has the same feeling of overwhelming terror and empowerment that can nary be found elsewhere.Health Testing Centers offers free confidential STD testing on a first-come first-serve basis. That means get there early and sign up and you won't have to wait hours and hours to get tested. I went at 3:00 on a Friday and had to wait for around an hour but I spent that time playing a board game with the person I was getting tested with. Yes the guy at the front desk has an attitude but I also saw him have to kick out a crazy Meth addict who was harassing people. He probably doesn't get paid very much and does really important work so cut him some slack and take the attitude with a grain of salt. My testing counselor took me through a round of questions and then did the super easy mouth swab to test me for HIV. We then spent the next half an hour going over information about practicing safer sex. I consider myself really well informed but he taught me some things that I didn't know about disease transmission and current trends in infection rates. After half an hour was up I got the news that every person wants to hear "You're Negative" and I did my little happy dance and was on my way.
