Review content:
I've been taking my dog to The Kennels for 5 years. Obviously I'm reasonably satisfied, but there's really no other place (that I know of) to take her around here. On the plus side, the kennels are spacious, and the facility has heating and air conditioning. Each dog has access to an outdoor run controlled by a door that can be closed by the attendant at their discretion. The basic price is reasonable ($16 for dogs under 35 lbs, $18 for dogs over 35 lbs.) If you want them to ""pet and play"" with your dog, it is $2 extra per day. Shouldn't that be included? And if you want them to feed your dog its usual food, it is $2.50 extra per day. I never understood that. If you provide the food, aren't you reducing their cost of keeping the dog there? Almost every time I pick her up, she is wound up and ecstatic to see me. When we get home, she drinks large quantities of water, as if she hasn't had enough for days. It makes me wonder what really goes on there. Do they really play with her and take her outside to the grassy play area? Do they give her enough fresh water? I have had mixed experiences with the staff. They seem to have a hard time keeping good employees there. I've met the owner a few times, and she could use a few pointers in customer service skills. I'm sure she's good with dogs: very controlling, not accommodating at all. But you can't treat people like dogs. If you pick your dog up after 3 pm, you have to pay for another night. I picked her up at 3:20 and the attendant even told me she hadn't been fed yet, but I still had to pay for the extra day. What's up with that? All in all, it's not that bad...but for my older dog, I really wish there was an alternative. I hate the thought of her sleeping on concrete, surrounded by yapping fox terriers (the owner is a breeder apparently). I suppose there is some consolation in knowing my dog is safe. But after her latest visit, she had diarrhea for 2 days after she came home. Again, it made me wonder about what they are feeding them, or how clean the cement runs are. Pros: Safe, temperature controlled, has outdoor play area Cons: Dog sleeps on cement floor, annoying extra charges
