Editorial review from Citysearch 8/17/2012

Have taken our dog there a couple times. Staff was very polite, actually invited me down for a walk through when I called in asking some basic questions, first time I have ever had that happen with a kennel. Very nice kennel it wasn't a vet hospital so no fear of illness and it wasn't a converted garage like some kennels I have seen in the past. I learned that the owners are actually well known professional handlers too and live on-site which made us feel like our dog is as safe there as anywhere. Bottom line, he was well taken care of and looked great upon pickup from grooming as well. I would say this is a Five Star kennel more

Very rude Employee 9/13/2010

i went through a walkthrough with a girl last week. I liked the surroundings, so I decided to make a reservation. the girl didn't even write it down and she gave me a contract to fill out at home?? this place doesn't seem to have it together cause when I went back in with my baby and the paperwork, another employee informed me that I was NOT in the books. that girl must have not liked me and decided NOT to write down my reservation for some reason; though I am looking for a regular place to board. I didnt care at that point when the other employee tried to say there was room, I wasn't about to leave my dog there. more

Best experience I've ever had with a Kennel!!! 9/10/2010

I left my dog their in July, with an extremely nice and helpful woman by the name of ""cindy"" I was introduced to her son who also worked with her. He was extremely helpful, as I had a crate that went with my dog, and a large bag of dog food that he helped me carry in. It's hard for me to go away and leave my ""baby"" with anyone. But I've never felt more comfortable leaving her in the confident hands of these two. I was given a business card and told to call anytime to check on her. I don't often travel, but when I do this'll be the only place I'll EVER leave my dog. more

Not Bad 5/10/2010

I've been taking my dog to The Kennels for 5 years. Obviously I'm reasonably satisfied, but there's really no other place (that I know of) to take her around here. On the plus side, the kennels are spacious, and the facility has heating and air conditioning. Each dog has access to an outdoor run controlled by a door that can be closed by the attendant at their discretion. The basic price is reasonable ($16 for dogs under 35 lbs, $18 for dogs over 35 lbs.) If you want them to ""pet and play"" with your dog, it is $2 extra per day. Shouldn't that be included? And if you want them to feed your dog its usual food, it is $2.50 extra per day. I never understood that. If you provide the food, aren't you reducing their cost of keeping the dog there? Almost every time I pick her up, she is wound up and ecstatic to see me. When we get home, she drinks large quantities of water, as if she hasn't had enough for days. It makes me wonder what really goes on there. Do they really play with her and take her outside to the grassy play area? Do they give her enough fresh water? I have had mixed experiences with the staff. They seem to have a hard time keeping good employees there. I've met the owner a few times, and she could use a few pointers in customer service skills. I'm sure she's good with dogs: very controlling, not accommodating at all. But you can't treat people like dogs. If you pick your dog up after 3 pm, you have to pay for another night. I picked her up at 3:20 and the attendant even told me she hadn't been fed yet, but I still had to pay for the extra day. What's up with that? All in all, it's not that bad...but for my older dog, I really wish there was an alternative. I hate the thought of her sleeping on concrete, surrounded by yapping fox terriers (the owner is a breeder apparently). I suppose there is some consolation in knowing my dog is safe. But after her latest visit, she had diarrhea for 2 days after she came home. Again, it made me wonder about what they are feeding them, or how clean the cement runs are. Pros: Safe, temperature controlled, has outdoor play area Cons: Dog sleeps on cement floor, annoying extra charges more

I wouldn't leave a dog I hated here 3/9/2010

I had a reservation to leave my chihuhua here for the weekend. First, the woman ignored me when I got there. When she did finally acknowledge me, she was incredibly rude. She refused to allow me to see where my dog would be kept. I was not allowed to leave a blanket or bed for my little dog. When I asked to see what he would be provided with since he would be on cold cement, I was shown a shredded rag that was a piece of an old bath towel. The woman was horribly rude the entire time I was there. I took my dog and left. No way would I leave any living creature there to be left on the cold cement with nothing to lie on for comfort OR warmth and NO WAY would I leave anything in the care of the VERY nasty woman that was working there. Pros: None that I could see Cons: Rude, mean, secretive more

Wonderful Kennel 2/8/2010

I have boarded my dog at The Kennels for the past few years. They are a wonderful kennel and I highly suggest them to anyone looking to board their pet. My dog always comes back happy and clean. He doesn't like cats, but the cat area is separate from the dogs, which keeps both happy. I am sad to see such a negative comment posted earlier, but I have dealt with The Kennels for a long time and it takes an extremely aggressive and dangerous dog for them to turn business away. Pros: CLEAN, friendly, secure more

The BEST in Nevada County 1/21/2009

Nothing even compares. We love this place. It seems like the only people that ever complain are are the ones with agressive dogs. I'm glad the Kennels doesn't let their dogs act that way around other animals. Bravo! Pros: Great facility more

Your dog will not be safe here while you are gone. 6/23/2008

Anyone who cares about their dog in the least should avoid this kennel. We have two dogs who have regularly stayed in other kennels before moving to Grass Valley. Our large dog is dog aggressive but not people aggressive. We put our dogs in this kennel because we were going on a two week dive trip on a little island and we wanted to make sure our dogs were secure and safe even though we had people house sitting for us. Upon getting off the plane in Houston we were greeted by two very rude messages from the kennel owner and her staff member saying that they could not handle one of our dogs and we needed to come and get her. She didn?t want the dog to damage her kennel. The kennel is made of concrete and wire. We were lucky to have a family member that could go and get her but from the tone of the message I was concerned what the owner would do with my dog if I had no one to pick her up. I was lucky in that I got this message before I was out of phone contact for two weeks. Upon returning the owner confirmed that she would have called animal control had no one picked up my dog. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a kennel. Very unprofessional conduct and I would never trust my dog or anyone?s beloved pet there. You can not trust that your pet will be safe with this kennel while you are gone Cons: Staff, Owner, Service, Care for your pet, Customer Service more
