Review content:
First he good.
The people on the phone were very polite and professional. Two technicians arrived, one that was very good the other was very nice and in training.
The service charge of $69 less $25 if you mention there website seemed very reasonable.
Now the bad.
They put a new capacitors. They wanted to charge $225 for the parts. I had just fixed my other unit and new these capacitors are not very expensive. The technician offered to remove the capacitor and just charge me a service charge. I took him up on the offer.
I then went to Hamilton Electronics on Airport BLVD and got the parts. The cost for the parts were 13.30+4.65= 17.95 + tax. i.e. they were going to charge me $225 for $18 dollar worth of parts, wow.
So there business model is to charge $44 - $69 for the service charge, but then charge you an absurd amount on the parts and that is where they make the money.
I suspect that they are not alone in overcharging for parts, Since the only thing that is easy to compare on price is the cost of the service charge, and most people don't realize how much they are being overcharged for the parts. My guess is others don't quite this much for parts, but I don't know that.
This seems like something there should be a law against this type of deceptive business practice.
I guess the moral of the story for people who don't want to get and replace the part themselves is to not only compare the price of the service call but also compare the price of some common parts that may be needed.
