Ashton Oaks is a relatively new complex. I was one of the first people to move in there. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. The apartments are OK, but nothing spectacular. I lived in a 1/1 and I liked the apartment, but hated the closet. It is a walk-in, but VERY small. The average woman will find it unsuitable. The creek beside the complex reeks when the water is low or during really hot temperatures so living with a water view isn’t so great. On the upside, there is a mile long paved trail along the creek side of the apartment that connects to the A.W Grimes sidewalk leading to two greenways. You can easily get a 5-7 mile run in doing the out and back at the complex and then both loops on A.W. Grimes. There a dog park within ¼ miles of the back of the complex that is nice, too. The staff in the office is nice, but ineffective. The complex has a problem with teenagers and young adults around the complex that they do not seem able to get it under control. During the summer, there were people swearing, fighting, and drinking at the pool at all hours of the night. They would leave beer bottles, trash, etc. everywhere. The staff sent out a letter threatening to close it after hours and then did so a few days later. That lasted for about 3 days. After that, the same folks were there causing the same problems. Lots of residents complained, but it didn’t really improve until fall arrived and they no longer came to the pool. In the workout room, they had a similar problem with young teens. I would come in to find 5-6 teenagers playing on the equipment, trash littered everywhere. They would put their lips directly on the spigot of the water – I never drank water there. I complained and nothing changed. They did not even bother to change the lock until 2 months ago. When they did change the lock, they didn’t tell anyone unless you came into the office. They eventually posted a notice of the change on their TV channel and asked residents to come in for it. One other thing to note: the treadmill on the right has had broken audio for at least 10 months and it’s still broken – same thing for the exercise bike. The police are ALWAYS at the complex – especially building one. There is someone on the second floor that gets a lot of attention there. They are also visiting the right side of the circle quite a bit. Speeding is also a problem. People get up to 30MPH driving through the parking lot. A woman was hit by an SUV in the parking lot here a few months ago and after that they put in speed bumps. They never even sent out a letter asking people to be careful! The speed bumps didn’t help. People just gun it after they go over them. They have no posted speed limit anywhere in the complex. Aside from the communication involving the pool, the only other communications I received from the staff are 2 emails: one hawking candles and the other pitching makeup. Apparently, they feel it’s OK to solicit the tenants who signed up for online bill payment, but not OK to send legitimate warnings or information via email. I never signed up to receive solicitations. This complex is fine for a young, single person. For a family, they should look elsewhere. Pros: Great Apartments Cons: Terrible Element and nice, but ineffective staff
