We came to CHOP based on the fact they were ranked #2 and we needed Proton Beam Radiation. I honestly have NO CLUE as to how they have gotten this ranking. Since we have been here 1 1/2 months already and another 1 1/2 months left, we have experience nothing but arrogance, lack of communication and disrespect. Our oncologist in Minnesota made sure CHOP had a detail report of my daughter and how to administer her chemo and anti nausea medications prior to us coming here to make sure there would be no complications or undue stress on my daughter. Needless to say immediately upon getting here, EVERYTHING changed and all we have heard is, "Well, this is how we do things here." Appointment times mean nothing, they see you when they want and you spend more time waiting than you do with the doctors. It is not uncommon to go in for counts to see if you are ready for chemo and this appointment to take 3-4 hours. I feel there is no need for these wait times since there is a lab right on sight and it shouldn't take hours to get lab results. There is no communication between departments, on more than one occassion we have been asked, "Why are you here." On a daily basis I observe numerous HIPPA violations, patients together in the triage area with their information displayed on the screens for all to see, doctors coming to the waiting room to discuss the patients care plan, doctors and nurses discussing patients in the hallways, when accessing my daughter's port, I have had to close the door to her room because apparently they don't know what patient privacy means. I have called back to our oncologist back in Minnesota numerous times to see if my daughter's current care has been reported back to them and it doesn't. I was the one that actually informed her oncologist in Minnesota that my daughter's Proton Beam treatments have been changed and that we will actually be staying here longer than we were initially told. I have quickly found this is the norm and not an isolated way of treatment!
