My car was towed by AAA in Brooklyn and taken to a shady car mechanic shop on Atlantic Ave, Cobble Hill Mechanic. I was told that the alternator and battery need to be replaced, and would cost about $550. I searched for mechanic shops in Brooklyn, and called around for prices. Seemed like I should pay about $275 for the alternator and labor, and an extra $100 for the battery. I happened to call Mitchell's, and he was so nice to me on the phone -- spoke to me for 20-25 mins, explaining how it seemed less likely that the alternator was broken (no red light came on on my dash board, wasnt while I was driving etc. etc). Told me that if I didnt want to stay with that mechanic, I could ask them to "not touch the car" (and break things on purpose) and to have it towed. He didnt even care if I wasnt coming to him. I had it towed, I took it to him and the alternator WAS OK. Battery needed changing, and I paid $120 instead of $550. I love Mitchell's mechanic shop. NEVER go to Cobble Hill with AAA.
