I personally don't go to Navy Pier but if you have friends visiting out of town it could be a fun place to go to. If they have kids, there is also a children's museum area. It gets a bit expensive considering you have to pay for parking as well. They do have great live music playing mostly during the summer. Winters are fun because they set up an ice-skating rink as well.
