You know that Christmas is right around the corner when you spy a Salvation Army bell ringer. Dropping a few bucks into the red kettle is as good as stuffing a stocking for a needy child.
That kind of easy giving may be harder to do this holiday season as The Army is learning that volunteers to staff the kettles and soliciting donations are hard to come by.
Donations to the red kettles are not only used during the holidays, but are a significant part of the year's operating budget supporting shelters, food pantries, youth and senior programs, people in need of utility, housing and prescription assistance as well as all other programs and services.
Donations in New Jersey can also be made through www.salvationarmynewjersey.org or by calling 1-877-NJS-ARMY and specify your gift is for the red kettle fund.
