Groovy Atmosphere: Flash back VS. Flash in the pan. 10/31/2006

I LOVE delicious Thai foods it is one of my favorite cuisines and I've been honing my taste on this regions mouthwatering selections for 25 years. Thai 65 has an awesome interior, which feels like you are in film circa 1970. The lightening is perfect and the layout is nice. I've only eaten here twice though because the food just isn't that tasty. If you are new to Thai food you might enjoy it more because I found the food to taste sort of a 'watered down' (i.e. Americanized). Frankly it reminded me of what "Thai" food might taste like if eaten at a dinner party of non-South-Asian family "experimenting with Thai flavours" out of a Betty Crocker Cookbook. I didn't find the food taste "bad" but "very bland" and not really like Thai food. The flavours in both dishes I tried, didn't come together. Instead I tasted fried noodle, soybased sauce, vegetables, meat. None bad, but all very subdued (perhaps overcooked? or without spice) and not working together. The Thai Iced tea was also not one worthy of many of Seattle's great Thai restaurant. It tasted like an off-balanced sugary mix, probably made from powder. I can't remember if this place has a liquor license, if it does I would recommend this for it's atmosphere but not for the food. more
