Groovy Atmosphere: Flash back VS. Flash in the pan. 10/31/2006

I LOVE delicious Thai foods it is one of my favorite cuisines and I've been honing my taste on this regions mouthwatering selections for 25 years. Thai 65 has an awesome interior, which feels like you are in film circa 1970. The lightening is perfect and the layout is nice. I've only eaten here twice though because the food just isn't that tasty. If you are new to Thai food you might enjoy it more because I found the food to taste sort of a 'watered down' (i.e. Americanized). Frankly it reminded me of what "Thai" food might taste like if eaten at a dinner party of non-South-Asian family "experimenting with Thai flavours" out of a Betty Crocker Cookbook. I didn't find the food taste "bad" but "very bland" and not really like Thai food. The flavours in both dishes I tried, didn't come together. Instead I tasted fried noodle, soybased sauce, vegetables, meat. None bad, but all very subdued (perhaps overcooked? or without spice) and not working together. The Thai Iced tea was also not one worthy of many of Seattle's great Thai restaurant. It tasted like an off-balanced sugary mix, probably made from powder. I can't remember if this place has a liquor license, if it does I would recommend this for it's atmosphere but not for the food. more

I'll never go hungry again! 3/8/2006

I have found my true love in Seattle, and her name is Thai 65. This newest of the Thai places on the Ave has great atmosphere, delicious food, and killer service. Every time I’ve gone it has been busy enough to be happenin', but not so busy that you have to wait long for a table. They’re also great with special requests (like extra peanut sauce, which is the best I’ve ever tasted). Check out the section in the back where you sit on the floor. more

Thai 65...nowhere near the best Ave options 3/7/2006

Thai 65 is a relatively new addition to The Ave's eatery options and not particularly a good one. The business did wonders with the outside of their space and is a huge visual improvement over whatever was there before. However the food leaves a lot to be desired, unless you're a fan of dishes that taste like a cross between feet and old man. Service is pretty good with manic water refills and a good attitude; I just wish the food didn't taste like stale boring. more

Other Thai restaurant on the Ave 9/27/2005

In comparison with great Thai restaurants on the Ave (like the Thaiger Room), Thai 65 doesn't really measure up. It is a recent addition to the U-District and maybe is still trying to find its place. The menu is less varied than competitors on the Ave and dishes are priced higher. One positive note is that Thai 65 is a bigger space so there may not be a wait. more
