People Skills Somewhat Lacking 5/16/2006

I incurred plantar fasciitis over the past few years but never sought help for it (weird condition, btw) until I accidentally pulled a ligament in this foot back in the spring of 2004. I went to the Centers for Foot Care on Hamilton Avenue and saw Dr. Kristin Titko. Her father is a podiatrist, but I've never dealt with him. There are other men in this practice as well. Dr. Titko may be a good surgeon, etc., but I never got to that point. I felt rushed during all of my visits; on the first visit, she didn't even tell me what my condition was but instead thrust a pamphlet into my hands and said in a hasty voice, "Here, read this!" I had to look it up online... She kept having me come back every other week or so, only to bandage my foot, which I could've done had I been given the proper instructions, saving me gas money and a co-pay. This taping is not a cure-all for this condition. I didn't feel like I was really receiving the best care. When she found out that I couldn't afford a custom orthotic, she did, thankfully, point me in the direction of the Power Step insert (you can get them for $30 at Bob Roncker's Running Spot in Madison Road (I think the suburb is O'Brienville), which is past Gilbert Avenue and further east on Madison Road, east of University Hospital/Reading Road). Fast forward: I accidentally fell in July of 2004 and went to this group to make sure my foot was not broken. Dr. Titko wasn't in; thankfully, one of her colleagues was, a Dr. Rodney Roof. Dr. Roof gave me a cam walker. Because our insurance at the time did not cover orthotics, this device was not covered, and we cannot afford $500 for something like that. The office staff spoke to Dr. Roof about my situation, and he, being a very caring physician, deciced to accept whatever the insurance company would pay and not worry about the remainder. I thought this went above and beyond the call of duty for a physician to do this and promptly sent him a thank-you letter. I was going to have an MRI done to examine the foot more closely, but due to my spouse's job loss not long thereafter, I did not go ahead with the MRI. I will deal with Dr. Roof again if my foot problem seems to worsen (it is bothering me again), but I won't schedule a visit with Dr. Titko. She seems to have an arrogant attitude about her. Like I previously stated, she may be okay, but I won't choose her as my # 1 podiatrist. more
