2011 Volkswagen Jetta GLI:
Atiyeh: "For 2012, VW made the Jetta even more popular by cheapening the interior, throwing away the independent suspension, and cutting the price by $4,000. While new car buyers are snapping them up, VW's enthusiast base isn't happy.
The new GLI is their car. Back is the soft-touch dashboard, great seats, a feisty 200-horsepower turbo four, and a snap-shifting DSG gearbox. The black-and-silver rims on the Autobahn package look brilliant, and whatever was slightly boring about the regular Jetta is simply gone in this top-end model. It costs $25,000 and handles like a real sports car."
2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8
Atiyeh: "This is the luxury sedan for the man who works all day so he can enjoy a night of steak and double scotches.
A maddening 470 horsepower, impeccable material quality, silky ride, sharp handling, and a very expensive-looking exterior make this a real winner. If you're also the man who can stomach lots of gas bills, then you can overlook the SRT8's only real drawback."
2012 Infiniti M Hybrid
Atiyeh: "For fuel-conscious folks with $800,000 homes, a Prius with leather isn't going to cut it.
Infiniti's attention to detail — the wavy stitching on the buttery-soft seats and dash, the sparkly wood, a sound to alert pedestrians — is everywhere in this midsize luxury car.
