The staff at Davey's doesn't dance around, trying to tempt you with smoked salmon, or even pretzels. They know you're there to drink, and they're only too happy to assist you. $7 Warsteiner pitchers are the vanguard of both Davey's selection and economic demands.
Midtown doesn't have a friendlier bar, in my opinion, but friendly doesn't mean clean. Don't touch the walls in the bathroom, and dry your hands on your pants, if possible.
Also, get there early, because on most Fridays and Saturdays, cover is collected at the door for whatever rock show is going on. However, the live music is usually very good.
