From good experience to bad 2/5/2011

We've taken our cars to Holman for some time, but recently I had to rethink things. I bought several tires from Holman &, after quite a few months, one developed a slow leak -- I needed to add air about every six weeks. I went into Holman & asked them to check the tire. They reported that the tire & rim seemed just fine, & they thought remounting the tire would solve the problem. Didn't use the car again until the next day -- a very cold Saturday, about zero degrees. After a couple miles on local roads, the tire simply failed. Completely flat & ruined. I was right next to a tire store, & Holman was closed, so I had them replace the tire. Cost $135. The people at the tire store said they thought the tire failed because the rim hadn't been cleaned well enough when the tire was remounted -- no nails or defects, but the rims was dirty. Called Holman the next business day. They wanted to see the tire: when I brought it in, they too said they couldn't see any problems with the tire. Then things got strange. Holman said he was going to send the tire back to the tire distributor for a pro rated refund. When I asked why, since the tire didn't seem to be the issue, he became kind of difficult to talk with, so I let it go. Mike said he'd call me later that day. Heard nothing. I tried two more times to talk with Holman about the whole thing, but they insisted that the only solution was to get a pro rated rebate from the distributor, even though even Holman said there was nothing wrong with the tire. Several mechanics have told me that, if there's nothing wrong with the tire or rim, Holman must have made a mistake remounting the tire; and that I should get a refund due to the bad remounting job. When I mentioned this, Holman's response was, "You just don't understand how this works." No, I guess I don't. In the end, all I got from Holman was a credit worth about $30 toward a new tire that I don't need. more
