A couple of friends introduced me to Union Street a few years back, and we keep going back.
They have a wide range of foods (large portions) for moderate prices. The atmosphere is laid back, but nice. It is located near the Max, so it is a great choice for a night out.
As for the locale (a common Detroit question), we have never had a problem. It probably isn't the nicest neighborhood, but like any big city, you just have to be vigilant. There are official parking lots near by, so parking isn't an issue.
