I went to this tire shop to have my 4/20/2012

I went to this tire shop to have my tires checked for balance. I bought this set at another Wal-Mart recently and after some break-in mileage they weren't smooth. Customer service was fine, attention to work's details was lacking. The first problem quickly became apparent when the tech lifted the van on a short-car lift with blocks positioned under the body's weld seams, not under the factory lifting flats. I'm surprised it did not buckle the floor because unibodies aren't meant to be lifted that way. Stay away from this shop just for this reason. Problem #2: he could not figure out how to undo the hub cap. On Chrysler styled steel rims the hubcaps are bolted from the inside. So he pried around and of course damaged the outer edge in 3 places. It is not obviously ugly but of course will need to be replaced. Did not ask me (the owner), eventhough I was hanging out in the parking lot. He asked a colleague and after finding out about the bolts was like ""I've never seen anything like this"" No experience? definitely. No discovery skills either I guess. Shame, because this tire shop was excellent in 2001, as was the SE Portland location. As I have written elsewhere, seems like in the last ~5 years they let go all the experienced personnel and hired random youngsters without any engineering aptitude. Try your local tire shop instead that has a scruffy-looking mechanic on duty, it's probably better. I have, before this set and eventhough the tires were cheap, the workmanship was far better. Maybe I came in on a wrong day, though buyer beware. No more wal-mart 4 me. more
