I lived in the Casablanca apartment building for 4 years as a graduate student and in many other apartments across the country before moving to Madison for graduate school. Goldleaf Development is the worst managment company I have ever dealt with.
The kitchen and bathroom were remodeled when I lived in Casablanca and the management gave me less than 2 days notice to clear everything out. It took them 2 1/2 months to remodel a small kitchen and bathroom and I had to call them multiple times to find out when everything would be done, which was ridiculous considering the size of the kitchen and bathroom and the fact that they didn't even replace all the appliances. They also jacked up my rent an extra $60 a month, which was totally not worth the shitty material they used to remodel the kitchen and bathroom.
Don't even get me started on the homeless guy (the old black guy with the red university bookstore bags... I just call him Bags). Goldleaf never did anything about it except post No Trespassing signs, which I'm sure the homeless guy just laughed at. I had to call the police at least half a dozen times to take care the the homeless guy. Any management company that lets squatters stay clearly doesn't care about the condition of the apartment building.
If you want to keep your security deposit, forget it. They stole over 75% of mine claiming that I dented the refridgerator and freezer doors (which ""cost"" them around $250). If you already live here, make sure you take pictures and video camera of the apartment condition before you leave, otherwise they will steal your security deposit.
After 4 years of living in Casablanca I had enough. I had unfortunately re-signed the lease for a 5th year (because they make you re-signed in November for a lease that doesn't start until August and if you don't re-sign right away they further jack up the price). I opted to re-rent and they did not help me out what-so-ever find new tenants. Once I finally found new tenants and they signed the lease and moved in, Goldleaf sent me a letter stating that I could still be help responsible for the apartment (which is illegal).
In conclusion, stay far away from Goldleaf Development if you like to keep your money and want to be treated like a person. If you're homeless... well you just found yourself a new place to live.
