The Not so Fabulous Kegs 5/18/2011

Wow! I cannot believe how TERRIBLE the service was at The Kegs! This is the first ever restaurant review I have written, but because of the experience I just had, I felt the need to share. The staff was completely overwhelmed and ill prepared for business. I placed my order and stood in their little entry way waiting for over 25 minutes. During that time I witnessed complete disorganization and confusion. Numerous times during my wait, orders were being returned because they were wrong or cold. The gentleman who seemed to be the boss madly barked orders at his staff and eventually closed the store for no good reason that I could see other than his inability to effectively manage his employees during a busy time. There was an obvious high level of tension behind the counter in the kitchen. I felt bad for the employees, they all had to ""tip toe"" around the boss and be very careful not to screw anything up, which would surely send him into a rage. I felt so uncomfortable waiting there I contemplated leaving several times but due to the volatile nature of the situation in the kitchen, I thought everyone (including the employees) would be better off if I just sat quietly and waited for my food. When my order was finally ready I started to take out my credit card to pay the bill, but a lady who appeared to be second in charge (possibly the wife of the boss) snapped ""we don't take credit cards""!! Startled and caught a little off guard I managed to stammer out something along the lines of ""sorry"" and ""I don't have cash or a check"". She quickly snatched my order back and put it behind the counter as if I was going to grab it and run. In the midst of my confusion I made the mistake of asking if there was a sign or something I missed that would have informed me about this policy, the lady sternly stated ""we don't have to put up a sign""!! She did however ""apologize"" but it did not feel at all sincere, she bluntly stated ""sorry"" in a harsh manner a couple times and walked away. I felt like she was mad at me for not knowing their credit card policy. Not knowing what to do I just walked out the door confused, mad, and starving. Keep in mind that at no time when I placed my order or during my 25 minute wait did anyone inform me that they did not except credit cards. Had I been informed of this, I would have been glad to run a couple blocks down the street to the ATM (I had plenty of time to kill during the wait). As I replayed what happed I felt so disgusted, I didn?t know what to do. I could not believe how I was just treated! I am assuming these two people I dealt with are the owners but I?m just speculating (hopefully they are not). I witnessed them close the store and take the phone off the hook so I knew I couldn?t go back, or call to complain. Plus I definitely did not see any advantage to talking to the man or woman in charge. On a positive note, the food smelled good and the servers seemed very nice and polite (and a little scared). If you do decide to give ""The Kegs"" a try I would strongly recommend taking advantage of their drive-up service and avoid at all costs going inside to the counter, it just isn?t worth it. Also, let me for warn you (because they won?t) that they do not accept credit cards! Cash or check only. more
