Massimo Al Ponte Vecchio has been one of my favorite places for twenty years. When I lived on Thompson Street I ate there at least once a week. They have classic Florentine dishes and always have delicious specials, with a focus on game. The new chef has brought Sardinian flavors to the menu which is complimented by an assortment of regional wines, Cannoneau, in addition to the outstanding wine list. Had a great bottle of Brunello di Montalcino last week with lamb shank osso bucco style.
The ambiance has improved with the renovation of the main room and the deep wood of the expanded bar area. It is a great date place with unpretentious staff and most importantly the food is superb.
They are now also featuring live music withh Grammy Award winning Guitarist Hernan Romero.
