Kelly Honda questionable service 12/18/2011

Some time ago I took my 2006 Honda Pilot into Kelly Honda to have a scraping sound from both rear and front wheels checked out; a young mechanic and myself, I was asked to join to point out the problem, took a ride in the car. The sound was then quite noticeable but the mechanic asked me to point it out; he could not hear it; later in the shop they found nothing but some extensive rust build up on the perimeter of the rotors. I had to pay $35.00 for this. The sound continued and I decided to take a look myself. I consider myself an expert mechanic, from my background on working on many cars we owned over the years and as a licensed aircraft mechanic on many makes of aircrafts. I did find the sound source to be from the calipers rubbing against the rust build up on the rotors, due to worn down pads. Apparently this must be typical on the Pilot; I did remove the rotors and using a grinder removed the rust build ups; the rubbing sound no-more. Some weeks ago took my wife's 2007 Accord to Kelly for a brake job. Was told the from rotors could be resurfaced but the rear to be replaced, and asked for the brake system to be flushed (condensate mixed with the oil) since Honda does not use a DOT5 oil) When picking up car had to pay for rotor replacement all around. A week later I took my Pilot in for same brake job and they did not recommend nor perform the flushing of the brake system. I did contact, email, Kelly Honda about the above but have never heard, got a reply, from them. I will most likely use an independent local Honda repair garage; there is a very good one in Peabody. more
