I stumbled upon Broken English a few weeks ago, heading back to Manhattan from an Ikea trip. With so many restaurants to choose from on Smith Street, I only accidentally found this place, and so glad that I did.
The ambiance is like nothing I've seen in Manahattan. We discovered after speaking to one of the owners who came over to out table to great us, that it was actually a converted garage, which is most likely what inspired the oversized feel to the place...high ceilings, exposed brick, flattering lighting, huge double-paned windows, etc. There is also a very funky feel to the place with mismatched tables and chairs .
The service, food, and ambiance all get an A+. The artichoke appetizer is something you won't want to pass up.
