I am a food critic and very particular about the food that I consume. We were going to lunch the other day (BTW...I eat out EVERYDAY) and was planning to take a friend to East Burn and sit in the great patio area they have. Unfortunately, this establishment is closed on Monday for lunch. So, we took off from there and decided to find a place we had never eaten before on an impromptu basis (which is the best sometimes!). In this case, not at all. I had never even heard of Madison's but the building looked extravagant and the parking lot was full (turns out that most were associated with the office building next door). We were greeted right away and have to admit that the service was OK. However, I asked the waitress her opinion on some of the menu items and her comment was ""everything is good here"". I decided to get one of the ""hand formed"" burgers which she said was very high quality meat. For $10 you would expect a great bistro burger. Ordered it medium and when it arrived it was like shoe leather. I stomached a couple of bites and then the waitress checked back with us. I expressed my discontent with the quality and all I received was an apology. I then stated, ""well, guess I will just get a box and carry the rest home to my dog"". Then, when we were ready to check out, the manager came over and asked if he could take the bill. I said, ""Yes, no problem. But I did want to let you know that the chef should realize when you order a medium burger it should be pink in the middle and not charred to shoe leather consistency"". He said, ""Absolutely, I will let him know right away"". I heard him chastising the cook but that is the last contact I had with him. No offer to recook the burger nor any other type of compensation. Needless to say, I will never go back to Madison's nor will I recommend it. With the economy the way it is, wouldn't you try and retain as many repeat customers as possible? This is very bad business. I hope that the owner reads these comments and takes my post to heart. Not good customer focus at all.
