As the parent of a strong willed and very active four year old I started looking for different outlets for my son's energy. Instead of soccer or basketball (how much would he really be learning at 4 anyway??), I chose to enroll him in Martial Arts.
Now over a year later I am so pleased with my decision. As he began his school year taking the bus, he was having some 'bully' issues that he felt comfortable enough with instructor Charles that he wanted to discuss how he should handle his bully - Needless to say, the instructor and I had the same solution - to ask him to stop then avoid - then tell an adult which was ultimately what needed to happen in order to stop the bully, but it was a relief to my son to have someone he admired help him thru his issue!
Not only has he learned a huge amount of self control along with an increased attention span, he has formed some great friendships with the other children in the class, he has the opportunity to grow and know himself that he wouldn't have had otherwise, he has the self confidence and stature of a much older child. Now that I have him in baseball, he does seem to stay more focused on the game than the other children on the team!
I couldn't be happier with my decision to enroll my son at Body Mind Systems - they are teaching my son lifelong lessons in a way that makes his learning fun, improves his strength and coordination, and he has the utmost respect for the adults in his life, the children that he meets and himself.
Pros: class size, instructor knowledge and patience!
Cons: the seating area for the parents could be more comfy
