My best decision as a parent! 5/16/2010

As the parent of a strong willed and very active four year old I started looking for different outlets for my son's energy. Instead of soccer or basketball (how much would he really be learning at 4 anyway??), I chose to enroll him in Martial Arts. Now over a year later I am so pleased with my decision. As he began his school year taking the bus, he was having some 'bully' issues that he felt comfortable enough with instructor Charles that he wanted to discuss how he should handle his bully - Needless to say, the instructor and I had the same solution - to ask him to stop then avoid - then tell an adult which was ultimately what needed to happen in order to stop the bully, but it was a relief to my son to have someone he admired help him thru his issue! Not only has he learned a huge amount of self control along with an increased attention span, he has formed some great friendships with the other children in the class, he has the opportunity to grow and know himself that he wouldn't have had otherwise, he has the self confidence and stature of a much older child. Now that I have him in baseball, he does seem to stay more focused on the game than the other children on the team! I couldn't be happier with my decision to enroll my son at Body Mind Systems - they are teaching my son lifelong lessons in a way that makes his learning fun, improves his strength and coordination, and he has the utmost respect for the adults in his life, the children that he meets and himself. Pros: class size, instructor knowledge and patience! Cons: the seating area for the parents could be more comfy more

Great Martial Arts School 10/10/2009

Bernadette S Provided by Partner
My children, ages 9 and 7, (both girls ) have been attending the Body Mind System Martial Arts School in Woburn, MA for one year. This has been a very positive experience for all of us. The reason I choose this school, many other schools are closer to where I live, was the fact that I was impressed by the level of respect, concentration, and the degree of self confidence the children were demonstrating in class -- even at young ages. The classes are divided into specific age groups which allows for new information and skills to be passed in a fun and age appropriate manner. The small class size also enables the instructors to focus on the individual strengths and weaknesses of each student. The children learn to be respectful of their instructors, and the other students which I believe translates into self-respect. Classes are challenging keeping with the traditional Martial Arts history but fun and engaging for children. The focus always remains on enhancing their mental as well as physical development. The instructors are dedicated and hard working individuals who really love what they do and are exceptional with children. I would highly recommend this Martial Arts School for children and adults. Pros: Good environment for children more

Great Place for Kids and Adults 10/6/2009

My children began training at Body Mind Systems in 2002 and continue today. The training focusses on development of respect, patience, determination, awareness, confidence and self esteem. The expectations in the classroom are clear, simple and consistent. The children are taught these qualities at age appropriate levels in a manner that is positive - never harsh, critical or belittling. Respect is shown to the students and in turn, student exhibit respect to the instructors, fellow students and their parents at all times when in the school. My children attend this school because I attempt to parent my children in a like-minded manner--the instructors support my parenting efforts and I, in turn, support the what is being taught in the classroom. The lessons are challenging, and the changes in my children have been amazing. Their training has positively affected other aspects of their lives, such as schoolwork and sports. My son began training as a child and has continued through high school, recently testing for his adult black belt-after earning it as a Junior student. The most striking thing about the children that continue to train for any length of time at this school, is that their manner sets them apart from those who do not train. This is not a school for children that want to learn to "kick and punch" . It is a school for parents who want their children to grow mentally and physically. And this school also teaches Martial Arts. Pros: Quality, consistent training more

An empowering experience 7/28/2009

I can honestly say that enrolling at 8 Martial Arts for Health, a Body Mind Systems training center, was the best decision of my life. The experience of training here has helped me grow so much. I started training at this school about three and a half years ago -- I had no martial arts experience before. I immediately felt welcome, and excited about what I was learning -- and would learn in the future. Classes were challenging then, and they still are. The fact that it's a good workout goes without saying, but the experience is so much more than that -- you learn about yourself through the process: Who you are, your strengths, your weaknesses, and how to grow stronger mentally and physically. Sounds heavy (and it is!) but it's extremely satisfying and empowering. The school offers both classes for adults and children (which are fun and teach discipline at the same time). There's something for people of all abilities here. Pros: Challenging and fun, chance to form lifelong bonds Cons: Only public parking around the school's location more

Stoneham, Massachusetts school. ?What people forget is that their own mind and body are the two things that they can?t replace. Your mental health and physical well-being enable you to make the most of your life. If either one is not strong, the rest of your life is negatively affected. Martial arts training helps improve confidence, discipline, focus, willpower, patience and awareness as well as helps with weight loss, stress relief and developing practical self-defense skills. A Life-Long Benefit 2/9/2009

stephenAC Provided by Partner
I have been training at this school for over six years, and have grown with the school to see both it and the students develop over time. I have found that the martial arts training passed here brings lasting benefits to the students' health and well-being--it certainly has for me. More importantly, though, the school succeeds tremendously in improving the minds of those who learn here. The students become more aware of the subtle details and differences of everyday life, they become better-mannered and more respectful, they build self-confidence in their actions and opinions, and they create major changes in their lives that would have gone unnoticed by themselves and others were they not present. The relationships built both here and, consequently, outside of the school form strong, trustworthy friendships that are rarely severed and never forgotten. I can say that I cannot imagine my current position in life without having gone down the path of martial arts training. And even if I had, I believe that this school in particular possesses an inexplicable core of sincere care and meaning that cannot be found anywhere else. This place has become a second home for me and many others, and I strongly recommend that anyone come and share in this family. more
