Dr. Ulmer chipped my tooth during a cleaning! 10/23/2010

Summary: Dr. Ulmer chipped my tooth during a cleaning, sold me a night guard that misaligned by teeth and my jaw, threw away my night guard, and charged me for multiple visits.\r \r During a cleaning Dr. Ulmer's dental hygienist was very rough and chipped my tooth. I mentioned it to Dr. Ulmer and he said to return in a one or two weeks for another appointment to discuss the matter further. On the return visit, Dr. Ulmer never addressed the problem and he sold me a hard acrylic night guard, even though I had no history of teeth grinding. I followed Dr. Ulmer's advice \r since he is a doctor. I wore the night guard for about a year and one day I woke up and my teeth did not come together. Only the second molars on my left side actually touched. My bite was completely off and my jaw was mis-aligned. There is about a half a centimeter gap between my upper teeth and my lower teeth. This causes a great deal of difficulty in chewing and there are a lot of foods I can not chew (i.e steak, vegetables) because I can not break up the food. I saw Dr. Ulmer again (third visit) and he said that he wanted to analyze the night guard and that he wanted to hold onto it. He told me to return to the office in another week. When I returned to his office, he and his staff was very rude and evasive towards me. I found out that Dr. Ulmer threw away my night guard that he said he was going to analyze. \r \r In summary, Dr. Ulmer chipped my tooth during a cleaning, sold me a night guard that misaligned by \r teeth and my jaw, threw away my night guard, and charged me for multiple visits. Dr. Ulmer charges \r for causing the problem and then charges the patient again for discussing the problem he caused. \r \r Dr. Ulmer is an aggressive salesman who pushes as many products as he can in order to support his high lifestyle.\r \r In order to fix my teeth and jaw alignment problems that Dr. Ulmer's nightguard and treatment caused, I had to get braces, which has been very costly and has taken a lot of time. I have talked to another dentist and an orthodontist and they mentioned to me that there are too many dentists who sell night guards, but know very little about them and the overall affect on a patient's teeth alignment and jaw alignment. The results can be terrible.\r \r I was very disappointed in Dr. Ulmer and his staff. He was more interested in selling me products and covering up his tracks, than helping his patient.\r more
