Formerly Good Store ""Gone Bad"" 6/8/2009

Well, to get directly to the point, I will NEVER shop there again, nor at any other Klein's Shoprite. So far their customer service department has been about the worst I have ever experienced. To put the icing on the cake, yesterday they refused to honor the coupons recently sent me from the Shoprite corporate office. This Klein's used to be a good store, but their transition to Klein's Shoprite in my opinion has been very poorly done -- it's been chaos. First, there were no major announcements or signage in the store announcing the transition. Second, there has been an absolute mess with the pricing. For instance, they did not make it clear that the ""2-fer"" policy now means you MUST buy two to get the sale price. Also, shelf tags are applied haphazardly and are often in the wrong place, so that it now takes twice as long to figure out what the item price is, and whether or not it is on sale. Finally, and most upsetting: the staff in their customer service department, especially the young woman I dealt with yesterday has a very ""devil-may-care"" attitude towards customers. This young lady would rather be chatting with employees that are on their lunch break rather doing anything that even resembles doing her job. There have been several other bad encounters with her in the past, problems with scanner inaccuracies, etc.. that she just blew off, but yesterday she exceeded the limits of my endurance when she refused to honor the coupons that corporate sent me. When I told her that the coupons were from the head office and that I had just received them that very day, she just shrugged her shoulders and stared at me, as if waiting for me to leave. Well, she got her wish. I left the coupons on the counter and walked straight out of the store vowing NEVER to walk into another Klein's Shoprite again. I was treated so impolitely that I will remember this jarring incident for a very very long time. I don't care if there is a Klein's Shoprite right in my neighborhood (as this one is), or even right next door, I will make it a point to shop elsewhere. I don't care if Klein's Shoprite has the best prices in town, I will make it a point to travel whatever distance is necessary to go buy elsewhere AND NOT GIVE KLEIN'S SHOPRITE A CENT OF MY MONEY EVER AGAIN. I don't have any reservations about shopping at Shoprite stores in other states, I remember my family shopping at Shoprite stores often when I was a child growing up in New York, and my aunts and uncles in Connecticut always shopped at Shoprite stores too. Let me make this perfectly clear: I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SHOPRITE. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ""KLEIN'S SHOPRITE"". I would have overlooked the chaos of the transition, but bad customer service is inexcusable. All it takes is a little effort and a genuine desire to help a customer, which this young lady had none of. Well, lucky for me, the local Giant although a little further away than Klein's has been nothing but great for me. Klein's management should take notes about what the Forest Hill Giant is doing right: great prices AND great customer service. In closing I just want to note again that the Shoprite corporate office customer service department has been very helpful and really first rate. It's a shame that the Klein's people down here are fumbling the ball and in my experience, making a mess of the Shoprite name. I don't know about the other Klein's Shoprite locations but they most definitely are making some major errors at the Main St Bel Air store, and to continue the football analogy, their customers are yelling ""foul"". But, this customer ain't playin' their game no more. Adios Klein's Shoprite! Pros: Not Any More Cons: Horrible Customer Service, Mis-pricing, Chaos more
