We have gone to Lee's Stone for 3 major projects. Our 1st project involved building a paver patio. The 2nd project was a tree surround with 3/4"" stone. Finally June 1, I went to there to purchase playground mulch. I worked directly with the female owner of the company. I gave her my dimensions for the mulch and told her that I needed it 4"" deep. She initially said it would be 14 yards. I said let?s cut it down to 13 b/c there are areas within the diagram that I will not be mulching. 13 yards seemed to be a lot, but I figured they do this every day.
On the day of delivery, it was a lot of mulch. Well after spreading out much of the mulch, we were oversold materials based on the dimensions that I gave to her. Oversold by at least 3 yards.
I did not realize that we had a similar issue in 2004 with Lee's until I was reminded last night. Lee's came out to measure for the materials. They over ordered the pavers by more than a pallet, and other materials. Luckily, they came and picked up the extra pallet and credited my account. The other materials remained on our property and bill.
The 2nd time a similar incident happened was in 2005, when I ordered stone to surround a tree. For the desired diameter & depth, they again oversold us. But yet again, I found a suitable use for the remains elsewhere on our property.
So here I am again in a similar situation. Had my memory been better, I would have gone elsewhere for the mulch. This time, I do not have any use for the 3 extra yards that Lee's Stone told me that I needed.
When I went to discuss the extra mulch with them today, they said that I should have had 10 yards and not 13, and basically called me a liar.
Going in there, I knew it was going to be a long shot to get credit for the extra 3 yards of mulch. I find it very interesting that in three purchases from Lee's Stone, I have been over sold three times. The difference between the 10 yards of mulch I should have been ordered, and the 13 that they did order for me was $121.
Pros: its closeby
Cons: deceptive, bad customer service, broken calculators
