I just went to Studio 28 (28th St between O & P Streets) as a walk-in, after first trying Moxie and Origines (both on 28th near P), both who advertise that they accept walk-ins, but are snooty if you actually do walk in. I was warmly greeted at Studio 28, even when I said I had no appointment. Owner Josey said ""Sit down and relax! Would you like a drink of water?"", then stylist Diane quickly checked with another stylist to make sure their scheduled clients would be covered, and said she could take care of me in an hour. Wow! I really felt special, even before my haircut.\r

I came back in 50 minutes and Diane was waiting for me. She asked me what I like about my hair and what I didn't like. I showed her a picture of a cut I liked. She told me that she could do the cut, but recommended some changes (keeping more length) that would work better for my hair. (I have super-thick, very wavy hair that I color myself). After a wash & condition, she trimmed/cleaned up my hair, then blow-dried it, explaining to me how I could duplicate it at home. Then she finished cuttting my hair dry. If you have curly or wavy hair, this is really the way it should be done so that you can actually see how much is being cut off. Curly hair shrinks when it is dry, so if it is cut wet, too much could be taken off. I kept insisting that she ""take some weight off"" (thin it) because I have so much hairDi, but Diane knows what she's doing-she did it a bit at a time, so that it was not thinned too much.\r

Some more styling and I was done. Diane works really quickly, but doesn't skimp on anything. She is just very intuitive about what to do, and she does it. I LOOK GREAT! I now have hair that makes people ask, ""Who did your hair?"" I am going back!!!\r

Salon 28 is very cool looking. You see art, a red, retro-looking round lounge, stylists and art, instead of a wall of products. All the customers were relaxed and the conversations were lively. I am soooo glad I found Studio 28!!!
