Wait Until Service Improves 8/21/2008

A sign outside says ""Open While Training"" -- but how much training will it take for servers to develop basic courtesy and competence? I was excited by the fresh Mediterranean menu and ate there twice; the food is fine, but the service discouraged me from going back. The waitress never smiled or welcomed me, did not write down my dinner order, and then returned after ten minutes to ask for the order again. After it arrived (late) she disappeared. Although there were only three other tables occupied in the dining room, I sat for fifteen minutes after finishing the meal, waiting for a check -- finally the hostess (who was courteous and efficient) noticed the problem and went in search of the waitress. The result was that when I left the restaurant, I had spent twice the time I intended and was unhappy with the experience.\r Often training periods can be fun, if the staff has some measure of humor or enthusiasm but, in a city full of professional waiters and waitresses, Aroma has assembled a staff of servers who seem to resent the job and would rather be doing anything else. more
