A restaurant can be open or it can be closed. If it's open, the staff should act like it and be properly attentive to paying guests. Seven of us took up a table around 8pm tonight. We placed our food orders around 8:20 and waited. At 8:45 we got soup spoons. At 8:50 we flagged down a waitress to find our waiter and find out where our food was. At 9 I had to go inside, interrupt the hostess on a personal phone call and ask where our starters and soup were. It turns out they were sitting on the counter (for who knows how long). \r

At 9:05, with our soup finally at the table, and after an excuse from the waiter about the sushi chef doing things in the wrong order, we were visited by someone claiming to be the manager. This is the point where you usually expect an apology and some kind of a gesture to make us satisfied again. What we got were accusations that our soup had been brought out at 8:45! He actually argued with me about what time our food was brought out and tried to convince me that it had arrived 15 minutes after it was ordered. After seeing that I was not backing down, he did give us a round of drinks on the house, but he also gave us a different excuse than our waiter had given for the delays.\r

Most of our food was brought out around 9:20. We canceled the rest when it had not arrived ten minutes later. We barely saw our waiter after the initial orders.\r

I guess some of this might have made sense if the restaurant was packed, but the only other guests were two tables of 2. All I can think is that the night was a little slow and the staff just gave up. :-/
