This visit just about cinches it. I've now decided that ANY LA restaurant that you've heard is an 'institution'? Well, just stay away because it will be w-a-y overpriced (Pink's Hot Dogs included!). I made the mistake of not looking up the menu/prices online before I left. My hickory burger w/cheese cost close to $7 and I don't know what the fries cost, but they must have been sprinkled with gold. I walked out of there $10 lighter. Insane. I had the Hickory burger - which I had read was a 'must have' -- and it was not that great. I hated the BBQ sauce and all the pickles. Hmm...seem to remember paying extra for cheese but didn't see any on the burger. The bun was awful -- same as I can get myself at Pavilions. I thought for $7 (or close to it), I would get a special bun. Nope. I much prefer the plain old mustard and mayo dressing. The fries were good. The atmosphere is fine, very old school. But I won't become a regular customer. Their prices are ridiculous. Who goes to this place??
Pros: 50s Diner Feel
Cons: Overpriced
