Decent Casual Dining Neighborhood Bistro-Type Place [Seems Cliquey with Local Regulars] 8/20/2006

Ive eaten at the bar at Alaska Petes a number of times over the years while Im on vacation in the Poconos. The last time was in April of 2006, and the food was pretty good as was the bar selection and service. There really arent many T.G.I. Fridays type places in this area, but Alaska Petes is one. It has the same kind of casual/bistro style as a Fridays [stuff on the walls etcetera], but a little more woodsy/cabin-like in ambiance. There is a pretty big dinning area, but Ive always eaten at the bar. It is clean and well kept. I always get the impression that the place is pretty cliquey with the locals. It generally seems like everybody sitting at the bar [and its usually packed after working hours] knows each other well, as does the bar staff. Its never bothered me much, but if you are from out of town prepared to feel a little like an outsider at the bar. The bacon-wrapped scallops were excellent, but I dont remember much of the rest of my meal. The food is good, casual dinning food. If you like places like T.G.I. Fridays or Ruby Tuesdays, you wont be disappointed. Pros: Nice clean place. Reminds you of a T.G.I. Friday's in an area where there aren't many places like that. Cons: It wouldn't be anything exceptional if there were more places nearby. more
