Okay, so we paid $5 cover each and had to purchase at least two (way overpriced) drinks to even get into the rotation. This should be MORE than enough to get to sing? but now we?re expected to tip the KJ too, just to get up in a reasonable amount of time? THAT?S RIDICULOUS! No KJ should show favoritism to singers based on tips? As an EXPERIENCED karaoke singer I find this practice terribly offensive. There are plenty of good shows in town (with MUCH BETTER KJs and sound systems ? both at Spotlight are below average) that don?t expect you to do this.
If that weren?t bad enough, while we sat and waited for our first turn to sing (it was moderately crowded) the owner, Mr. Lee, got up and sang... TWICE! Ugh! HELLO? YOU HAVE PAYING CUSTOMERS PATIENTLY WAITING THEIR TURN WHO DID NOT COME HERE TO BE PRE-EMPTED BY YOU!!! Karaoke 101: You take care of your CUSTOMERS FIRST, then IF it's a short rotation, you may sing at the tail end of it. When we approached Mr. Lee and complained about this, he got mad at us and told us to leave. I?m appalled and amazed that this dolt manages to run a business this way.
The ONLY reason I ever go back to Spotlight is if a good friend or family member decides to have a party there (despite my advice)? My wish to celebrate with loved ones supersedes my desire to not patronize this place.
But I still hate it.
Pros: parking, location
Cons: Terrible service... no regard for paying customers
