I live four blocks away from Black Pearl so for better or worse I'm very familiar with the restaurant.
The food is good. The style of cooking is homestyle; the type of place you could take your elderly aunt to.
That said, the restaurant is VERY inconsistant in portions and value. I've had to send back $7.95 dishes of things like yu shiang pork and sesame beef because the portion was so small that it could have been dished out with an ice cream scoop. This isn't much of a problem when dining at the restaurant because one can just send it back; take out or delivery is another matter.
One hopes that the undersized portions are an occasional kitchen mistake, but it happens so often that it seems unlikely.
When this restaurant is good, its good,but when its child-sized portion night its the worst Chinese restaurant value in Seattle.
