I took my wife to the Whitney to celebrate the New Year 2003. Probably the best historic environment I have dined at in the US. The service, like many so-called fine dining restaurants in the Midwest, is simply not there. Detroit is not what it was, gone are the patrons who could challenge the restaurant to rise to the occassion - that, or they are all in the suburbs now.
We stood around in the entrance for five minutes before being greeted - I could only ascribe it to rudeness. There was something wrong with the wine - I can't remember what. Our courses came either right on top of each other or after extended waits. We were served our main course right at the stroke of midnight - this for a 9PM seating that should have allowed us to be enjoying Champagne instead. No recourse given despite complaints.
Cons: , Poor Management, Poor Hosting
