A new friend of mine took me to the Steps of Rome Trattoria last night. (October 1st) I was really excited as I had heard excellent reviews of this restaurant. The atmosphere was wonderful, our waiter was impeccable, but the food was ...mediocre. The carpaccio tasted like it had been thawed out too quickly it had a watery mushy texture and flavor. The grilled seafood-fish platter tasted vaguely of lighter fluid, the grilled fishes were fine, but nothing to savour. My friend's steak was on the tougher side. Our sides of spinach & potato were plain. I am often a fan of plain food, but boring is what comes to mind. All in all the food was sorely disappointing. Neither of us finished our plates. I doubt I will try the sister restaurant unless someone convinces me there is a difference.
