The Intrepid is a WWII aircraft carrier docked at Pier 86, made into a museum that's fun to explore. Short films and guided tours also available. You will see the elevator that brings jets up for takeoff at sea, where the cable is attached to stop them from going overboard, etc. There is also a great tour of a decommissioned submarine where you see how tight the quarters are. A great place to visit with a friend who is a veteran, as I did, for his unique insight and commentary. About $15 per person for admission but you can spend an entire day here.
