Available for parties 3/9/2006

One of my old companies hosted our Christmas party at the Intrepid - what a ball! Instead of just dinner & dancing, we had the chance to wander around the museum (which is made up of old military vessels & a loaned BA Concorde), go through the exhibits and use the Flight Simulator (something even my boss was able to enjoy). Get close to machines you wouldn't be able to touch unless you were a war vet... more

Fun and different NY experience 1/12/2006

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is not your typical NYC experience. It is located right on the Hudson river and it's such an interesting experience. You can walk around the boat (and if you're lucky, get invited to an evening shindig there - which is really cool). On the ship you can see information about aircraft launching and all kinds of plan-related things that are pretty interesting. There's really a lot to do and see so leave yourself a good amount of time to enjoy it all. more

Intredpid Sea Air Space Museum 9/3/2005

The Intredpid Sea Air Space Museum is not your run of the mill painting and sculpture place. Most New Yorkers have driven by it a million times -- it's right on the West Side Highway . . . but how many have actually taken the time to stop and go in? It is very interesting and educational. Kids would enjoy it because it is something different. Adults would enjoy it -- because they will learn something!! It is definately one of those New York places that everyone should go at least once. It is located along the Hudson River where there are walk and bike paths -- so plan time to take a stroll either before or after your visit. more

wow! 8/21/2005

After having driven past here several times on the West Side Highway, one afternoon I chose to stop by the much-raved about Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museuem. All I can say is WOW. I was in awe of the jets and planes that were on display. The tour was quite informative as well but a little boring. more

A tribute to America's greatness at sea, in the air, and in space 8/21/2005

The location of this wonderful museum is in itself worth the visit: it is housed on a retired aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid. The visitor can wander around looking at how the sailors and pilots lived on the ship during its time of commission in World War II and up to Vietnam. On the deck and in the plane holds, the museum displays decommissioned aircraft that flew in various wars, as well as spy aircraft. In fact, the A-12 Blackbird is one of the main draws of the museum. To top it off, the museum has recently added to its collection the legendary supersonic civilian aircraft Concorde, offered to the museum by British Airways. Additionally, the submarine USS Growler also forms part of the museum. There, visitors can get a good feeling of the cramped quarters and claustrophobic conditions that were the norm in World War II conventional submarines. I would vote this one of the best air and space displays around. more

great museum for all ages. 8/19/2005

A museum on a working air craft carrier. Brilliant! I remember how amazed I was the first time I went as a kid and that amazement hasn’t left. This is the ultimate eye candy museum for aeronautics buff to the regular joe. You’ll see all sorts of planes and weapons that you’ll never get to see outside of being in the army or navy. You’ll spend countless hours in amazement just staring and reading the descriptions of these machines. I recommend everyone to visit at least once. You won’t regret it. more

Lots of fun 8/16/2005

The Intrepid is lots of fun to visit. It's not often you get to stand on a real warship and you realize how massive it is when you're standing there. Lots of well maintained exhibits - a good chance to learn a lot and have some fun. There's a flight simulator ride and a theater with some good movies. You can even see a concord when you're there. more

Nice Place to Visit 8/11/2005

The Air and Space museum is a great place. You get to see alot of planes and the history behind the ship. I found to be very interesting. I wouldn't recommend going on those hot days since the place is not totally air conditioned. When you get to the top where all the planes are located you get a great view of the river and manhattan. And the planes are very cool. It is best to go during Fleet week but be prepared for long times and huge crowds. more

A fun outdoor activity 8/11/2005

Get yourself to the west side on a nice spring, summer or fall day and visit this museum located on a real docked ship. It is vast and hugely entertaining to explore what a real aircraft carrier looks like and learn everything about it. It is very accessable and a cool place to spend a day. more

A good place for a short visit 8/7/2005

My son was amazed at the planes and different aircrafts he was able to see and touch. I liked the layout and design but felt that there could have been more to see. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of what to expect so I had to figure out what to do with the rest of the afternoon. Despite that we had a great time. I didn't appreciate how expensive the admission was, based on what they offer - but to each their own and I suppose that is how they make their money - by robbing tourists - luckily I am a New Yorker so I won't be outsmarted twice! more

planes 8/7/2005

This a pretty cool museum. You have history up close as you walk through the old aircrafts. Kids find it interesting to see the old planes. You even get to go into some.Once you are done with looking at the planes there is not much left to do so dont plan on spending a whole day here. You should definately go at least once though. more

An okay place to go once. 8/5/2005

This is an old WWII ship. They also have other planes you can view. Some you can walk through others you can only view from the outside. The feeling one gets when walking through is "that is it." You spend a lot of money hoping to see something good and all you get are a few short films and some intresting pictures. A place to go to only in a strap to do something. more

A Museum on an aircraft carrier! 8/3/2005

The Intrepid is a WWII aircraft carrier docked at Pier 86, made into a museum that's fun to explore. Short films and guided tours also available. You will see the elevator that brings jets up for takeoff at sea, where the cable is attached to stop them from going overboard, etc. There is also a great tour of a decommissioned submarine where you see how tight the quarters are. A great place to visit with a friend who is a veteran, as I did, for his unique insight and commentary. About $15 per person for admission but you can spend an entire day here. more
